Holy shit. That's nearly 2.5 times what India had during its peak in May last year.

Introduction:
(Alternet) In Orange County, California south of Los Angeles, Kelly Ernby — a GOP activist known for her opposition to vaccine mandates — has died of COVID-19 at the age of 46, according to the Daily Pilot.
Ernby, who spent a decade as a deputy district attorney in Orange County, ran for a seat in the California State Assembly in 2020 and competed with Newport Beach Mayor Diane Dixon for the Republican nomination. Dixon narrowly defeated Ernby in that primary before losing to the incumbent Democrat, Cottie Petrie-Norris, in the general election.
Ernby’s opposition to vaccine mandates preceded the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Ernby opposed a California law that created stricter immunization rules for schoolchildren, saying, “I don’t think that the government should be involved in mandating what vaccines people are taking. I think that’s a decision between doctors and their patients…. If the government is going to mandate vaccines, what else are they going to mandate?”
Don't mourn, organize.

And that is probably underestimating how many cases there are right now in the U.S., India was also probably massively under counted as well.

Maryland Gov. Hogan Institutes 30-Day State Of Emergency Amid COVID Surge, Grants More Powers To Hea
Source: Baltimore Sun

Read more: https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronaviru ... story.htmlIn the midst of surging patient volumes at Maryland hospitals and a massive increase in COVID-19 infections statewide, Gov. Larry Hogan implemented Tuesday a temporary state of emergency and other executive orders designed to give the state government more powers and tools to combat the crises.
The new initiatives, announced at a news conference in Annapolis, give state health secretary Dennis R. Schrader broad powers to assist hospitals with soaring bed occupancy numbers and staff shortages; expand, in theory, the emergency medical services workforce; mobilize 1,000 members of the Maryland National Guard; open 20 new coronavirus testing sites adjacent to hospitals, which have reported high numbers of emergency department walk-ins seeking confirmatory testing; and begin providing booster shots for 12- to 15-year-old kids in the state.
“While we are hoping for the best, we are actively preparing for the worst,” Hogan said, adding that the latest projections show state COVID hospitalizations could reach more than 5,000, an increase of more than 150% over the previous peak. Already, hospitals in the state are strained, said Dr. Ted Delbridge, executive director of the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Systems, which transports and matches patients to the right providers during emergencies.
On Tuesday, more than 3,000 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized. Flu and other seasonal illnesses also are bringing people into hospitals, Delbridge said. “Our hospitals are struggling to deal with the number of sick people coming to them,” Delbridge said. “It’s just plain sad. For our health care heroes, it takes a toll.”...

At the very least, deaths aren't radically up. Though hospitalizations are definitely rising rapidly.

'No ICU beds left': Massachusetts hospitals are maxed out as COVID continues to surge
January 4, 2022
Dr. Melisa Lai-Becker, the medical director for the emergency department at Cambridge Health Alliance's Everett Hospital, spent much of Monday afternoon urgently calling hospitals all over the state.
"I was searching for an ICU [intensive care unit] bed for one of our patients, and every single facility is full," she said. "They are at full capacity. They have no ICU beds left."
She even started looking up hospitals she could call in neighboring states, but they're in the same predicament.
Before the holidays, public health experts warned that the combination of gatherings and the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus could fuel a dramatic surge of cases and put further strain on hospitals already burdened with staffing shortages and increased patient needs due to delayed care. Those fears appear to have been realized. The state reported more than 31,000 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, which includes tests taken over the long holiday weekend. On Tuesday, the state added nearly 17,000 more confirmed cases to that tally. Last winter, the seven-day average of new confirmed cases peaked at about 6,000.

Why is it ONLY the media running with the "milder" angle, and everyone actually knowledgable barring a very tiny number of the same outliers has been sounding the alarm?

"something for restaurants" ahahahahahaha f*ck
lmao oh my fucking god
Obviously there's not going to be another stimulus, but the administration doesn't want to say the actual reason: they can't pass legislation.
