To the older members I'll sound like a broken record here, but perhaps it's been long enough some others may not have heard me say this before. Why not get rid of all borders? The Canadian border and the Mexican border alike. There's an incentive to end the drug war real quick. No more profiling and harassment of civilians as they try to go about their lives crossing between countries. No more traffic jams. Ease of trade. There are so many benefits!
This is something I would eventually support – but only in the distant future.

Here in Britain, for example, we'd have literally millions of refugees pouring into our country if that happened today. There'd be total chaos, our NHS would be overwhelmed, housing would face even greater shortages, crime would go up, the list goes on.

Perhaps in 100-200 years when we've established a system of post-scarcity and the world is a more benevolent place. But today? No way.

Much as I despise the Daily Mail, Fox News, etc. they aren't entirely wrong on this issue. I have great compassion for refugees, and those in genuine need of help are welcome here. But it needs to be controlled. It can't be a free for all. We need borders for the time being.

Blockade Backlash: Three-in-four Canadians tell convoy protesters, ‘Go Home Now’

February 14, 2022

If the goal of the Freedom Convoy was to capture the attention of millions of people in Canada and around the globe – mission accomplished.

If, however, the goal was to build support for their demands to end pandemic-related restrictions – it has backfired utterly.

New public opinion data from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute shows after more than two weeks of unrest, Canadians are now more likely to oppose measures sought by protesters.

SLOLY OUT

Ottawa police chief who has overseen the greatest collapse in law and order in Canadian history has resigned. His incompetence has led to the imposition of the Emergencies Act for the first time ever...

So only 48 hours after arresting people with weapons at this very blockade where there were people ready to kill them. This is what we get. What the f*ck is happening? This is deepening the idea that the police are in it with the blockaders. Also during a pandemic? Unacceptable...

Total circus:

In some actual good news the Surrey police have cleared that border blockade.

I believe that means there is only 1 blockade remaining in Manitoba... and even it says it is going to fold tomorrow...

https://winnipegsun.com/news/news-news/ ... -wednesday

Those financial measures are CRUSHING and I don't think these blockaders want to totally ruin the rest of their lives over this...

That just leaves Ottawa... where there is still a hardcore contingent and it isn't clear if they are armed. They are putting out misinformation like this saying anything there is planted though...

Public Safety Minister Mendicino now has the RCMP taking command of the OPS after the ouster of their chief and he is toughening the language including saying an operation is imminent against anyone remaining in Ottawa. Could be about 150-200 hard core people still there...

President of El Salvador comments about Canada: "Are these the people who like to give lessons to other countries about democracy and freedom? This is one of the top ranking countries in the “democracy index”? Your credibility on these topics is now worth 0."

Who would've thought that the banana republic would be leading the free world :D
(also as a side note: with their investments in BTC I wouldn't be surprised if they quickly become one of the richest and most free nations in the west)
And, as always, bye bye.

I doubt it. Being allowed to transact a cryptocurrency for the exchange of products and services does not equate to greater liberties. In fact, they have nothing in common to each other, contrary to what you think. It is no different than citizens in a developing country choosing to transact in US dollars instead of the country's own currency. I hope you realize Bitcoin is pretty centralized for a cryptocurrency in terms of the hashrate monopoly concentrated in the hands of few miners who reside in countries like the USA. You could say American miners have de facto economic power over El Salvador by virtue of controlling their Bitcoin's worth.

And now that Sloly, is gone and the RCMP and OPP have taken over. Activity is ramping up in what looks like will be an operation to clear this protest out before the weekend. Canada's JTF2 (Delta Force equivalent) have also been observed in the area, there I'm assuming should anything go wrong (violence).

Isn't El Salvador the most violent crime ridden country outside of a war zone? Libertarians really aren't making good cases for their ideology if THAT is what the so-called free world should aspire towards.

Canada (via Emergency Powers) is merely defending her democracy, and if one is to care about such things, you defend that with every measure. As for the JTF2, a few of their members were shown recently to have been compromised, so I hope the rest are able to be trusted upon to do their jobs.

It is Day 20 of the crazy in Ottawa.

Big developments today:

- Forces are intensifying in Ottawa, there is now a strong suspicion that there are arms on the hill and there are some VERY deranged individuals and leadership there. Today there was a crazy press conference from their "leaders" trying to encourage antivaxxers to bring their children down to the protests so that the police won't act. (Essentially using children as human shields.Which we know is not below these people...)

- Tickets were delivered to the vehicles today by police. And there is a suspicion that they will likely move in to clear these people before the weekend. The Public Safety Minister Mendicino suggested such today...

- Chaos in the Ottawa government. The mayor is trying to force the chair of the police board in Ottawa to resign, she has refused. (She wants to run to be mayor in the fall but her popularity is collapsing rapidly.) People also want the mayor out for negotiating with these terrorists.

-Leaks of information behind the donors is causing backlash across the country as people turn on those found to have been financially supporting the convoy. Also the banks are beginning to freeze bank accounts associated with the insurrection.

Things are getting very volatile in Ottawa and the likelihood of a violent end to this are growing rapidly.

Why exactly should anyone give a damn about any of these people again?

He's technically part of Canada's history. I mean, it literally happened on Canadian soil at one point in time. When a Canadian isn't nice anymore, you know something is terribly wrong.

It is just a bloodbath at Ottawa city council tonight, that would make even Game of Throne blush. At least 3 councillors including one aspiring to be the next mayor of the city have been removed from the police services board after failing to deal with the inaction of the Ottawa Police Service sooner. These councillors are all on the left including the wannabe mayor Dianne Deans who was also the chair of the board. They were elected on a kind of defund the police/progressive police reform platform and were seen to be protecting Sloly (POC chief) who was widely seen as incompetent and driving a toxic work environment. Upon being put up for the chop we got this melt down for her.

This is why having people whose only goal is to be woke with police forces does not work... its not simple to run an organization. And simply putting someone into the job because of their race and expecting them to then reform the forces to be progressive approved doesn't work either.

She also apparently tried to go around the board today and hire someone else without a vote and even got his letter signed. Though this is likely going to be void....

The mayor has also been under the heat and looks like a jackass failure that everyone wants gone at this point. He tried to go around and negotiate with the convoy to move the trucks and announced an agreement earlier this week that they immediately went back on. He then had the AUDACITY to claim he got them to move their trucks tonight and then one of the councillors revealed they were at the protest and went out to the street to show the trucks were still there. LMAO.

He also was aggressively misgendering a trans person who he didn't like. Which is stunning for someone who is gay and supposedly a progressive mayor.

Total shit show.
