EU to provide weapons, including fighter planes, to Ukraine amid Russian invasion
Source: The Gazette

The European Union to the rescue?
The European Union announced Sunday it will send weapons, including fighter planes, to Ukraine as the Eastern European nation battles an all-out invasion from neighboring Russia. The 27-member European bloc had already closed its airspace to Russian planes and barred two Kremlin-controlled media outlets, but the plans to send weapons directly through Brussels is a first.

"This is a watershed moment," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. "The European Union steps up once more its support for Ukraine and the sanctions against the aggressor that is Putin's Russia. For the first time ever, the European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and other equipment to a country that is under attack."

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said the bloc would earmark $500 million for EU member states to buy arms for Ukraine.

"We're going to provide even fighting jets," Borrell said at a Sunday press conference. "We're not talking about just ammunition. We are providing more important arms to go to a war."

New York State to stop doing business with Russia, Hochul says
Source: NY Daily News

New York will no longer do business with companies headquartered in Russia or run by Moscow, Gov. Hochul said Sunday. The move is a way for New York to wield its clout in a show of solidarity with Ukrainians as Russia’s invasion of their country entered its fourth day, she said.

“As the 10th largest economy in the world — larger than Russia — we realize the unique power that we have to join President Biden in economic sanctions, as well as to look at exactly our operations,” Hochul said at an Albany press conference. “We are no longer going to allow New York State business to be transacted with Russian entities” she said.

Hochul signed an executive order to review all state purchases and investments, “seizing” the ones in Putin’s hands, while noting that New York is home to the largest Ukrainian population in the U.S.

She also promised to work with state Comptroller Tom Di Napoli on divesting funds from Russian businesses.

The outcome of this war depends on how much support Ukraine gets.

We should loan Ukraine one of our armor divisions and a couple hundred planes. ;)

Seems Russia is now pivoting hard towards China. It all worked in China's favor.

Sweden to send arms to Ukraine in break with tradition
Sweden announces it will break its doctrine of not sending arms to countries in active conflict and send military equipment, including anti-tank launchers, to Ukraine.

The decision to send 135,000 field rations, 5,000 helmets, 5,000 pieces of body armour and 5,000 single use anti-tank launchers is the first time Sweden has sent weapons to a country in armed conflict since the Soviet Union invaded Finland in 1939, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson tells reporters.

This war doesn't really serve China's interests in any way... and they are trying to not get to entangled in this should the West decide to start hitting it's precarious financial situation with major sanctions... their housing market is already on the ropes...

I can't sleep, this is really intense. Things are happening so fast. If the EU sends fighter planes to Ukraine, why wouldn't Putin see that as a foreign intervention?

It's not, they're sending just the jets, not piloting them. No different than supplying guns, helmets, or anti-tank weaponry.

But in case the deranged dog follows up on his promise and nukes us all, then NATO and the US will gladly level that entire country 10 times over. Maybe that makes you feel better, I know it does for me.

MAD isn't something which should give anyone peace at night. This can't possibly be the peak of humanity; the timeline will not end on this.

Looking at the bigger picture and despite the civilian casualties made thus far, it's clear Russia's actually trying to avoid mass civilian deaths, otherwise they'd have utterly flattened the country by this point. It seems they're treating this more like a surgical operation to quickly route Ukraine, which backfired.

@Yuli: Thus far. However, I expect that Putin is soon going to drop that facade and start being indifferent to civilian casualties. Mariupol could very well be the first city to see the new tactics... starting as soon as tomorrow potentially... We know what he is capable of to civilians if you recall the Chechen wars...
