No, it shouldn't. It's a tragedy that we're even talking about it. However it's out of our control. You and I, and most sane people tried to live peaceful lives, and get along with each other. But those like Putin live with hate and jealousy. He is holding the world hostage with the largest nuclear arsenal on Earth. If this is to be our end, then I take comfort in knowing that justice will be served.Cyber_Rebel wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 4:45 am MAD isn't something which should give anyone peace at night. Paranoya and chaos on the streets of Kiev.
25000 kalashnikovs freely distributed among "patriotic civilians" plus desperate search for "Russian infiltrators" on the streets brought the predictable results: night skirmishes with army, police, and Kievan "volkssturm" killing each other and random unfortunates happened to be in wrong place in wrong time. The first "night of fear" from 25 to 26 february brought 60 killed "infiltrators", and then situation only worsened: everyone seen on the streets from 17-18 to 8 am is officially "possible enemy's infiltrator" and can be shot without any warning.

Russia fires on women and children evacuating through humanitarian corridors – Vereshchuk
28.02.2022 05:35
"Russia is firing on humanitarian corridors, in spite of everything, ignoring our requests to allow for the evacuation of women, children, orphans, and people with limited mobility. As a result, there are wounded civilians," Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk said, the Ministry’s press service informs.
It is especially horrible as these people once considered Russians their brothers and sisters, said Vereshchuk.
“They are shocked by what is happening, by the way they come under ruthless and unashamed fire from Grad systems. I know what a wound it is for them, what a pain. We will go through all this together, and they understand that. And they really want to live in their country, have shelter, confidence in their safety, understand that they will never be killed by Russians or other enemies," said the minister.
According to the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the enemy is destroying houses, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools with unprecedented brutality.
In particular, a child was killed and four others (two children and two adults were injured) in the artillery shelling of the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv. A Russian sabotage-reconnaissance group shot a car on Olena Teliha Street in Kyiv, with a family with three children inside. The girl and her parents died, two other children are in critical condition in hospital.

Russian Major Schetkin Leonid Petrovich, along with his photo identification, military insignia and other personal belongings were photographed in Ukrainian custody and the photos shared by Ukraine’s Operational Command North.

I mean let's be honest here: Ukraine isn't actually going to win this war. I think everyone not succumbing to propaganda is aware that it was indeed a good several days of fierce fighting but it can't last forever.Certain Russian user wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 6:41 am Paranoya and chaos on the streets of Kiev.

The real question is "what happens next?"
I'll at least say this: we in the USA? No change to our nuclear readiness. We've not put our own warheads on alert or anything. Indeed, we're not even mobilizing or planning to. Despite what some members on this forum express, our leadership are operating on a "whatever happens, happens (but the Russians will pay for it, if you catch my drift)" mindset.

Russia-Ukraine latest: Panic in Russia as economy in freefall
28 February 2022 • 9:00am
Panic in Russia has broken out as the rouble plunged to record lows with people concerned about their savings.
Russians waited in long queues outside ATMs on Sunday, worried that the new Western sanctions over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine will trigger cash shortages and disrupt payments.
"A bank run has already started in Russia over the weekend ... and inflation will immediately spike massively, and the Russian banking system is likely to be in trouble," said Jeffrey Halley, Asia-based senior market analyst at OANDA.
Russians posted screenshots of their banking apps on social media , offering to buy the dollar for 120-130 rubles.
It comes as Russia's central bank announced today it was raising its key interest rate to 20 per cent from 9.5 percent as the West pummelled the country with sanctions over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Alas, this is not yet clear to nearly everyone in this thread, entertaining each other with propaganda narratives of "high moral ground", "stalled putin's blitzkrieg", "russian atrocities and huge losses" and, finally, "letters of ashamed russians" (with one of them, posted by wjfox, ending with ukrainian nazi slogan). Sad.

As predicted Russia is now indiscriminately shelling civilian areas, this is Kharkiv this morning. Ukraine is confirming dozens of civilian casualties.

Is it that “high moral ground” is something you could care less about?Certain Russian user wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:31 amAlas, this is not yet clear to nearly everyone in this thread, entertaining each other with propaganda narratives of "high moral ground", "stalled putin's blitzkrieg", "russian atrocities and huge losses" and, finally, "letters of ashamed russians" (with one of them, posted by wjfox, ending with ukrainian nazi slogan). “Stalled” is admittedly open to question.
“Russian atrocities and huge losses” – relative and highly ambiguous terms.
I am Russian. And I stand for Ukraine(Flag Ukraine emoticon - caltrek)
Thank you
This is a “Ukrainian nazi slogan”?
Or is the declaration of being a “Russian” the fascist part?
I suspect you mean the former and not the latter. So, any support for Ukraine is the equivalent of supporting Nazis?
Speaking of propaganda, here is something from a couple of weeks ago:
https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/12/politics ... index.html
Perhaps we just did not understand the point. Not that it should be taken as an indication that no plans were under way. Simply, warning that Putin might decide something that is harmful is “hysterical” because Putin is such a perfect fellow. No matter how calm is the tone in the delivery of the warning. No matter what that decision of Putin’s might be.(CNN) (Russian presidential aide Yury) Ushakov said the conversation "took place in an atmosphere of hysteria about the supposedly imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine by American officials, everyone knows this."
Ushakov added: "The pressure around the topic of the invasion was carried out in a coordinated manner and the hysteria has reached its climax."
According to Ushakov, Biden told Putin he was "committed to the diplomatic path and had laid out a range of considerations that he sees as addressing many of Russia's concerns." Putin said the US and its allies had been "pumping up" Ukraine with new weaponry and encouraging provocations by Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region and in Crimea, Ushakov said.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had on Friday accused Western countries and the press of spreading a "large-scale disinformation campaign" about an allegedly impending Russian invasion of Ukraine "in order to divert attention from their own aggressive actions."
"At the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the global information space faced a media campaign unprecedented in its scale and sophistication, the purpose of which is to convince the world community that the Russian Federation is preparing an invasion of the territory of Ukraine," the Ministry said in a statement published on its website. ."
But none of this matters, does it.?
The only thing that matters is to obey the will of Putin through “honorable capitulation.”
So, what Putin says today is all that matters. No need for such trifles as consistency, logical coherence, morality, etc?

Well, well... everything is going as Putin planned.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Re: Ukraine War Watch Thread
I was writing a wall of text to explain my stance, but it was lost after a nasty glitch. In short, the roots of this war go deep into 2013, this wasn't Russia who started this, this is Russia who is going to finish this. And I'm a common Russian man supporting Russian army fighting for a right cause. The sooner we will win, the sooner there will be peace in Ukraine.
Is this "pro-war" or "pro-peace", you decide.
