Liz Truss approval ratings reach new lows after Tory conference
PM’s -47 net rating in Opinium poll worse than Boris Johnson’s at height of Partygate scandal
Sat 8 Oct 2022 17.14 BST
Liz Truss’s personal ratings are now even worse than those recorded for Boris Johnson at the height of the Partygate scandal, according to another Observer poll which will cause alarm among Tory MPs.
Truss’s personal approval rating of -47 is now the worst ever recorded for a prime minister in an Opinium poll for the Observer. It is a worse rating than that recorded for Johnson during Partygate and Theresa May in the weeks before her resignation.
It suggests that the perception of the prime minister among voters has worsened despite the Tory party conference, when leaders and parties traditionally see a bump in support as they are given the chance to present their political vision.
Her net approval rating has fallen by 10 points since last week as a result of a significant rise in the number of voters who say they “disapprove” of the job she is doing. The figure was up nine points to 64%. Only 16% approve of the job she is doing. She has an overall approval rating of -47 after rounding is taken into account.

Absolute clowns running this country.

Friday should be interesting as the Bank of England will end its emergency bond-buying programme.
I don't think Truss and Kwarteng can last much longer. Another leadership challenge before Christmas...?

To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

2nd shortest-lived Chancellor in UK political history, after Iain Macleod (the latter wasn't even sacked, but died of a heart attack).
This insane clown show can't go on much longer, surely.
We desperately need a General Election and to remove this awful government, and begin reversing their 6 years of devastation since the cataclysmic Brexit referendum.
All of this madness goes back to that fateful day in 2016.

There are a few petitions around that have over 250,000 names/votes on them. There is also a 3 hour debate at parliament on Monday about having a general election.wjfox wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 12:35 pm 2nd shortest-lived Chancellor in UK political history, after Iain Macleod (the latter wasn't even sacked, but died of a heart attack).

Liz Truss is desperately clinging to her premiership after she sacked her chancellor and ripped up the mini-budget but failed to calm the financial markets or furious Conservative MPs.
In a humiliating reversal, the prime minister backed down on plans to scrap an £18bn rise in corporation tax and replaced Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor with Jeremy Hunt.
She said staying in her position as prime minister would help to “reassure the markets of our financial discipline”, but the cost of government borrowing rose and the pound fell following her press conference announcing the changes.
Senior Conservative MPs are plotting how to remove her from office, with some mulling whether to publicly call for her to resign in the coming days. One former cabinet minister said they thought it was “50/50 whether she will make it till Christmas”, adding: “If I could wave a magic wand and get rid of her now then I would, but the problem is the mechanism.”

Liz Truss's government on the brink after Suella Braverman's parting shot

Liz Truss's UK premiership looked on the verge of imploding late Wednesday, after a Parliament vote triggered allegations of government bullying and the resignation of two of the prime minister's senior officials.
Liz Truss's beleaguered government appeared at risk of collapse on Wednesday as Suella Braverman launched a stinging attack on the prime minister after being forced to resign as home secretary.
Braverman's dramatic departure, coming just five days after Truss sacked her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng, risks the prime minister experiencing the sort of mass exodus of ministers that forced Boris Johnson to quit.
Amid chaotic scenes in the Commons, it was reported that Wendy Morton, the chief whip, and her deputy, Craig Whittaker, were both reported to have left the government. However, after hours of confusion Downing Street released a statement confirming the two "remain in post".
