Democratic Sen. Jon Tester to run for 4th term in Montana
https://apnews.com/article/politics-mon ... 21e9a1012b
By MATTHEW BROWNyesterday
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jon Tester of Montana said Wednesday he will seek reelection to a fourth term in 2024, a boost to Democrats’ hopes of maintaining a seat in the Republican-leaning state as they try to hang on to their narrow Senate majority.

Tester, 66, said he was seeking reelection to continue standing up for veterans and to “lower costs,” which his campaign said referred to rising expenses for housing, health care, child care and other needs.

“I know that people in Washington don’t understand what a hard day’s work looks like or the challenges working families are facing in Montana,” the Democrat said Wednesday in a statement obtained by The Associated Press. “Montanans need a fighter holding Washington accountable.”

As a third-generation farmer and former music teacher, Tester has leaned on a folksy speaking style and populist-themed messages to overcome his Republican opponents in each of the last three elections. He narrowly prevailed each time by drawing independents and centrist Republicans while distancing himself from party leaders in Washington.

Marianne Williamson Confirms Presidential Run, Becoming First Prominent Democrat In 2024
Marianne Williamson confirmed in an interview with Medill News Service on Thursday that she is running for president as a Democrat, becoming the first announced candidate for the party. The best-selling spiritual author and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate is holding an event in Washington on March 4 to officially launch her campaign.

When asked if she was running, Wiliamson said, “We’re on the phone, but if we were on FaceTime, you’d see me wink.”

“I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time,” she added.

In 2020, Williamson ran a long-shot campaign with the slogan “join the evolution,” a play on “revolution,” having never served in elected office. She dropped out of the race in January before any primary, polling at less than 1 percent.

Pence says he is nearing a decision on 2024 presidential bid
Source: NBC News/By Jonathan Allen and Ali Vitali
WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that he will make a decision “by the spring” about whether to seek the presidency and suggested that he would pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee if that’s a condition of participating in primary debates.

“If I’m a candidate, I’m sure I’ll meet whatever the requirement is for debates,” Pence told NBC News in an exclusive interview.

As for his timing, Pence said he has a little while before he has to make a decision. “We’re listening, we’re reflecting, we’re talking to firms,” Pence said, adding that “by the spring, our family expects to have a very clear sense of our calling.”

His timing could be complicated by special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into former President Donald Trump. Smith is asking a federal judge to compel Pence to testify before a grand jury about Trump's Jan. 6, 2021, effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

DeSantis leads Trump in California matchup
Source: Politico/Jeremy B. White
California’s large Republican electorate prefers Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to former President Donald Trump, according to a new poll that captures shifting conservative preferences ahead of a contested presidential primary.

The Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll released Friday suggests many conservatives are ready to move on from the former president and affirms that DeSantis would be the Republican most likely to draw voters from Trump. The tally also contains grim news for Vice President Kamala Harris as voters in the Democrat’s home state remain tepid on her presidential prospects.

Republicans in California would choose DeSantis over Trump in a head-to-head presidential matchup by a resounding 17 points, according to the poll. That advantage shrinks in a Republican field featuring former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and other Republican contenders, but DeSantis still would enjoy a clear advantage over Trump in that scenario. He also has a higher favorability rating among Republicans than the former president.

California’s 5.2 million registered Republican voters could play an outsize role in the Republican presidential primary when they select a presidential candidate next March. The primary offers a prime moment of influence for voters who are often sidelined in the politics of the heavily Democratic state.

AZ-SEN: Ruben Gallego Making Inroads with Sinema's donors
Tara Palmeri: “Chuck Schumer has likely been up all night with desert-hued nightmares of the 2024 Arizona Senate race—in particular, how the current murder-suicide pact between Ruben Gallego and Kyrsten Sinema could deliver the seat to the election-results denying Kari Lake, essentially a more telegenic Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

“As that showdown looms in the distant-but-not-too-distant future, Gallego has peeled off much of Sinema’s Silicon Valley donor base, the same crew of influential female philanthropists who paved the way for her 2018 election in the name of girl power and turning purple Arizona blue. Critically, Gallego has won over rising mega-donor Karla Jurvetson, who famously gave Elizabeth Warren’s super PAC a $15 million check when her 2020 campaign was low on cash.”

“Winning over Jurvetson was a coup for Gallego—not just because of her deep pockets, but also on account of her status among the Silicon Valley set as an alpha fundraiser who wealthy women in the Bay Area looked to for guidance.”

The AP Interview: Biden ready to run, US first lady says
Source: AP

By DARLENE SUPERVILLE a few seconds ago
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — U.S. first lady Jill Biden gave one of the clearest indications yet that President Joe Biden will run for a second term, telling The Associated Press in an exclusive interview on Friday that there’s “pretty much” nothing left to do but figure out the time and place for the announcement.

Although Biden has long said that it’s his intention to seek reelection, he has yet to make it official, and he’s struggled to dispel questions about whether he’s too old to continue serving as president. Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term.

“He says he’s not done,” the first lady said in Nairobi, the second and final stop of her five-day trip to Africa. “He’s not finished what he’s started. And that’s what’s important.”

She added: “How many times does he have to say it for you to believe it?”

Rep. Elissa Slotkin announces 2024 bid for Senate in Michigan
Source: NBC News
Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., announced Monday that she will seek the Senate seat being left by Debbie Stabenow, a fellow Democrat who is not seeking re-election in 2024.

In a video announcing her campaign, Slotkin highlights her service in the CIA and on multiple tours in Iraq alongside U.S. troops, as well as a bipartisan track record in the national security space under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Still, “nothing is more important to me than” Michigan, Slotkin says. “We need a new generation of leaders that thinks differently, works harder and never forgets that we are public servants,” Slotkin said in the video.

Slotkin noted that "nothing tested me more” than when her mother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and didn’t have health insurance, adding that her mother had let it lapse after “many years of being gouged by the insurance companies because she happened to have a pre-existing condition.”

“It was like a grenade went off in our lives,” she said. Slotkin recalled helping her mother fill out paperwork for bankruptcy the same week she was seeking life-saving medical care. Her mother died in 2011. Slotkin joins several of her House counterparts in trying to run for the Senate in the upcoming 2024 cycle across various competitive races. Her announcement, expected for weeks, comes after several prominent Michigan Democrats took themselves out of the running.

Biden sees surge in Dem backing for 2024 run, with support highest among the young: poll - TheHill
The number of Democratic voters who think President Biden should be the party’s nominee in 2024 is rising, according to a new Emerson College national survey released on Tuesday.

Seventy-one percent of Democratic voters said Biden should carry the party’s banner in the presidential election next year, up from 58 percent in last month’s Emerson College poll.

Support for Biden to run for a second term is highest among 18- to 34-year-old Democratic voters, with 85 percent of the group saying he should run again. Only 15 percent of 18 to 34-year-old Democratic voters said someone else should be the nominee, according to the survey.

Seventy-two percent of 35- to 49-year-old Democrats said Biden should be the nominee, while 28 percent said it should be someone else. Among 50- to 64-year-old Democratic voters, 61 percent said he should be the nominee, while 39 percent said it should be someone else. Sixty-seven percent of Democrats 65 years and older said he should be the nominee, and 33 percent said it should be someone else.

Kari Lake wins CPAC vice president poll, topping DeSantis, Haley
Source: The Hill
Former Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake won a straw poll for the Republican vice presidential pick during the Conservative Action Political Conference (CPAC) this weekend.

Among a field of 28 candidates, Lake won the poll with 20 percent of the vote, beating former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis received 14 percent of the vote, and Haley, who announced her bid for the White House last month, won 10 percent.

Lake, who was also a featured speaker at CPAC’s Ronald Reagan Dinner over the weekend, has refused to accept her loss in the governor’s race last November and is challenging the election results in court.

Her official campaign Twitter account responded to the CPAC straw poll results by suggesting she’d be unable to serve in the role.

Young Dems Back Biden: 85% want Biden to be the 2024 nominee.
Emerson National Poll: 71% of Democratic Voters Think Biden Should Be 2024 Nominee

Biden’s support is highest among Democratic voters under 35

Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling, said: “Biden’s support is highest among Democratic voters under 35: 85% of whom think he should be the nominee. This sentiment decreases to 72% of those between 35 and 49, 61% of those between 50 and 64, and increases to 67% of those over 65.”

In the 2024 Republican Primary, President Donald Trump continues to hold 55% of the vote. This number reflects his standing in the January Emerson poll, as well as the June 2022 Emerson poll. A quarter of Republican primary voters (25%) support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the GOP nomination, a four point decrease since last month when he held 29% support. Former Vice President Mike Pence holds 8%, and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley holds 5%. Both Pence and Haley have increased their support by two percentage points since last month.

Many eyes are cast upon Florida to see what plans Ron DeSantis might have for the rest of the country. Here is an article featuring an extension list of legislation Florida republicans are considering. Quite disturbing:
