Only the government mandated education coming your way.
Florida bill would ban gender studies majors, diversity programs at universities
(Reuters) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would gain more influence in the state's public university system, and majors involving gender studies or critical race theory would be eliminated if a bill filed this week wins support from the Republican-controlled legislature.
The new measure, which largely reflects a legislative agenda announced by DeSantis in January, also would ban consideration of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in hiring of faculty. It would require each institution's board of trustees to approve hires, giving DeSantis greater influence over those decisions because the governor appoints a significant number of board members.
The wide-reaching legislation represents a new front in the Republican war against the "woke" agenda many conservatives believe liberals are trying to push on public education across the country. DeSantis, who is expected to launch a presidential bid after Florida's legislative session ends this spring, has positioned himself as a leader in that fight.

West Virginia's legislature has passed a bill that would allow concealed carry of firearms on public college campuses, including West Virginia University (pictured here).
Ray Thompson/AP
A bill that would allow people to carry concealed weapons at public college campuses in West Virginia passed by a landslide in the state's House of Delegates on Tuesday.
The measure now heads to the desk of Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican. He hasn't made any public indication of whether he will sign it into law.
Current laws in West Virginia prohibit carrying guns on public college and university campuses.
But this bill — which didn't gain enough traction when introduced in 2018 and 2019 — would allow people with concealed-carry permits to have pistols or revolvers on campuses starting in July 2024.

An Oklahoma teacher who said she lost her job after helping her students access banned books is speaking out against the growing movement to censor books in schools.
Summer Boismier used to work as a high school English teacher in Oklahoma.
In 2021, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a bill into law to limit student engagement with critical race theory, gender identity, and sexuality in the classroom.
As soon as the bill was passed, Boismier gave her students a QR code that led them to the Brooklyn Public Library's Books Unbanned project, which allows them to read the very books that their own school officials deemed not appropriate. Books that have been popularly challenged are often about or feature people of color, LGBT people, and people with disabilities, according to the Office for Intellectual Freedom at the American Library Association.

Ron DeSantis' Ghoulish Education Bill Would Ban Majoring in Gender Studies
https://www.yahoo.com/news/ron-desantis ... 00820.htmlOn Tuesday, Florida state Rep. Alex Andrade (R) introduced a bill titled Public Postsecondary Educational Institutions, which would not only effectively eliminate tenure for professors, but would also prohibit any spending on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and would ban majoring in gender studies. Yes, you read that right. It would ban a major. Hundreds of students at state universities staged walkouts on Thursday in protest.
The Tampa Bay Times said the bill mirrors much of a legislative proposal Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) put out in January. The bill comes after DeSantis banned a high school Advanced Placement course on African American studies. DeSantis is widely viewed as a Republican candidate for president in 2024 but has yet to announce. (Even though he’s definitely running.)
Because these proposed changes could only apply to publicly funded schools, that means people with enough money, willingness to take on debt, and/or time navigate archaic financial aid programs in order to attend private colleges could still take these courses and majors.
In a January press release, the governor’s office said the proposal would “further elevate civil discourse and intellectual freedom in higher education, further pushing back against the tactics of liberal elites who suppress free thought in the name of identity politics and indoctrination.” Colleges have to ban entire majors to have free thought, you see.

MO: 'They Can't Attack Me. Now They're Coming After Kids'
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/ ... q-00083888
Greg Razer is the only openly gay member of the Missouri State Senate — the upper chamber of a legislature that, according to the ACLU, by late January led the nation in bills the organization calls anti-LGBTQ. That’s 31 such bills covering a wide range of policies, though most of them are identical or similar and concern one of two issues: banning transgender girls from playing on sports teams that match their gender identity and forbidding health-care providers from performing gender-transition procedures on minors. Another would prohibit public or charter schools from offering instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity — broader provisions than the Florida law critics have branded “Don’t Say Gay” for banning such instruction in kindergarten through third grade. A few regulate drag shows. One, as part of a broader “Teachers Bill of Rights,” attempts to protect teachers from reprisals for the pronouns they use. (As of mid-February, Oklahoma had overtaken Missouri in the ACLU database with 34 bills. Neighboring Kansas had 10.)
Razer, a Democrat representing a Kansas City-area district, does not view all of these bills with equal concern. But as a once-suicidal teen struggling with his sexuality growing up in southern Missouri’s cotton country, Razer, 44, feels a kinship with transgender youth who feel targeted in the state. In an interview with POLITICO Magazine, he said kids who visit his office wonder, “Why are these adults doing this to us?” He says he tells them about LGBTQ history, how people in the community have historically been banned from jobs, marriage, and the military, and how, as a white gay man, he feels he’s won these battles. “They can’t attack me anymore,” he says, “so now they’re coming after kids.”
Razer and I first spoke before news broke that a former case worker at Washington University Pediatric Transgender Center was alleging serious misconduct at the St. Louis-based facility. In both a sworn affidavit to the Missouri Attorney General and an online essay, Jamie Reed alleged that the center’s clinicians had inappropriately prescribed hormones without rigorous assessment or parental consent, and also detailed instances of harmful physical and psychological side effects she said she’d witnessed from puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones. Washington University has pledged to investigate and said it holds “medical practitioners to the highest professional and ethical standards.” The allegations have only intensified the legislative debate. In a follow-up phone call, Razer told me that “if some hospital system is not following standard protocol on treating kids, then that’s hurtful to those kids, first and foremost. It would be hurtful to the whole community, in the long term. So no one’s going to be angrier than me.” He said he is awaiting the results of the investigations. “That being said,” he went on, “sure was convenient timing.”

DeSantis signs bill that gives him more control of Disney's special district

Appearing at the doorstep of Walt Disney World, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday that gives him new power over Disney, effectively punishing the entertainment giant for speaking out against the Republican’s political agenda.
The new law amounts to a state takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the government body that has given Disney unique powers in Central Florida for more than half a century. It allows the governor to replace the district’s existing board – mostly people with ties to Disney – with a five-member body that he hand-picks.
“Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” DeSantis said Monday at a Reedy Creek fire station in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. “There’s a new sheriff in town and accountability will be the order of the day.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would "destroy our democracy" if he is elected president, according to a leading expert on fascism.
Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a professor of history and Italian studies at New York University who has written several books on propaganda, authoritarianism, and dictators such as Benito Mussolini, made the claim while tweeting out a video of former Florida governor and 2016 presidential hopeful Jeb Bush endorsing DeSantis.
DeSantis is a scary scary man. He really does remind me of Mussolini in many ways. He hates opposing opinions. While not confirming his bid for the White House in 2024, DeSantis has long been thought to be the main challenger to Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination.

Tennessee bill would partially roll back motorcycle helmet law; AAA opposes

https://www.wjhl.com/news/local/tenness ... a-opposes/
Republicans are fucking stupid!NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Legislation that would let some motorcycle operators ride without a helmet is facing opposition from a AAA club.
The bill would create a four-year pilot program that would make helmet-wearing voluntary between September and May for riders of motorcycles, motorized bicycles, and motor-driven cycles who are 21 years or older. An operator or passenger who is on TennCare, the state’s Medicaid program, would still have to wear a helmet.
The Auto Club Group, the second-largest AAA club in North America which covers Tennessee and several other states, opposes the bill and is urging its members to contact lawmakers and ask them to oppose it.
The group says the legislation would increase the number of deaths and injuries on Tennessee roads.
“According to a 2021 survey conducted by AAA, 92 percent of Tennesseans support maintaining an all-rider helmet law,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman the Auto Club Group. “The current law has worked well in keeping motorcyclists safe on our roadways and we cannot afford to weaken it.”

Gov Ron DeSantis’ team has been accused of threatening to call the police on supporters of former President Donald Trump who were demonstrating outside of a book signing event at a Leesburg, Florida mall on Tuesday afternoon.
A small group of Trump supporters gathered in the mall parking lot with Trump signs and flags, but were told to disperse in a video recorded and posted to Twitter by far right activist Lara Loomer.
“They told me to say anybody wearing Trump has to go right now,” a uniformed security officer is heard saying in the video. Later in the recording, the officer says he is going to call the Leesburg Police Department.
Mr DeSantis was at the event to promote his new book, which is entitled The Courage to Be Free. The Florida governor is widely expected to announce a run for president in the coming months, which would pit him against Mr Trump in the contest for the Republican nomination.

Tennessee Lawmaker looks to add firing squad to execution bill - and lynching

https://www.kake.com/story/48477746/law ... ution-bill
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WSMV) -- A Tennessee lawmaker is working to add death by firing squad as a method of execution in the state.
HB1245 was originally introduced by Rep. Dennis Powers as a death-by-electrocution bill. Now, the bill is being amended to offer inmates on death row a different execution method.
During a committee meeting this week, several of the state’s representatives said they were in support of the idea and believed it to be the most humane way to be executed.
Rep. Paul Sherrell agreed with the bill and took the conversation a step further by suggesting lynching as another possible execution method.
“I think it’s a very good idea. And I was just wondering, could I put an amendment on that, that would include hanging by a tree also,” Rep. Sherrell said during the meeting on Tuesday.

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about governor to register with the state
https://www.wfla.com/news/politics/flor ... the-state/
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.
Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.
In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.
If another blog post is added to a blog, the blogger would then be required to submit monthly reports on the 10th of each month with the appropriate state office. They would not have to submit a report on months when no content is published.
For blog posts that “concern an elected member of the legislature” or “an officer of the executive branch,” monthly reports must disclose the amount of compensation received for the coverage, rounded to the nearest $10 value.

Women who seek abortion in South Carolina could face death penalty
https://wpde.com/news/local/abortion-so ... rs-2-22-23
WTF?
https://wpde.com/news/local/abortion-so ... rs-2-22-23
(WPDE) — A new bill introduced in the South Carolina Statehouse could put the death penalty on the table for women who get an abortion.
House Bill 3549 is an amendment to the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023 and would define "person" to include an unborn child at any stage of development. This would ensure that an unborn child who is a "victim of homicide" or "victim of assault" is given the same protections under state laws -- including, up to the death penalty.
On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States conservative majority ruled to end constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years, best known as Roe v. Wade.
Since then, several state groups, both pro-life and pro-choice, have expressed their support and opposition, respectively, to the decision.
Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, state lawmakers passed a Fetal Heartbeat Bill, which banned abortions after a heartbeat was detected. But, in January, the South Carolina Supreme Court blocked the abortion ban, deciding that it limited a woman's right to privacy and violated the state's constitution.
WTF?

Texas GOP Bill To Fully Reward Heterosexual Married Couples Who Have 10+ Children

"This Is Handmaid's Tale S**t"

Anew bill led by a Texas representative, Bryan Slaton, would give a 100 percent credit for property taxes to married couples with at least ten children. The filled bill would only provide graduated tax relief for heterosexual couples who were never divorced.
The newly introduced Texas House bill does not recognize LGBTQ families, single parents, or blended families.
The former pastor and Republican representative Slaton said, “With this bill, Texas will start saying to couples: ‘Get married, stay married, and be fruitful and multiply.'”
The controversial bill, known as H.B. 2889, would provide couples a 40 percent property tax reduction if they have four children, with the tax break increasing for every additional child.
