Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee is directing 900 prospective jurors to appear in court next month for the state's trial against Trump co-defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell, both lawyers.
The order comes after McAfee ruled Thursday that former President Donald Trump and 16 others accused of trying to alter the outcome of the 2020 presidential election will be tried separately from Chesebro and Powell, both of whom invoked their right to a speedy trial. McAfee wrote that he "will endeavor to have a jury selected and sworn by November 3, 2023," in the trial of Chesebro and Powell.
On Friday, McAfee ordered subpoenas to be issued for 450 potential jurors to appear Oct. 20, and another 450 potential jurors to be at the Fulton County Court on Oct. 27. The trial for Chesebro and Powell is slated to start on Oct. 23. Jessica Levinson, legal contributor for CBS News, said 900 is a high number for a jury pool, but understandable given the case.
"Is it very high? Yes," she said. "Is it multiples higher than most trials? Absolutely. Is it exponentially higher than most trials that are happening in America today? Yes, absolutely. But it involves the former president of the United States." "I think the idea is that so many people will have strong ideas about the defendants," she added.

The former president said he didn't listen to his attorneys who told him he lost the election because he didn't respect them.
"You hire them, you've never met these people, you get a recommendation, they turn out to be RINOs (Republicans in name only), or they turn out to be not so good. In many cases, I didn't respect them," Trump said. "But I did respect others. I respected many others that said the election was rigged."

The pretrial hearing began just after 10 a.m. ET, with New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron outlining that he will be reviewing motions for summary judgment from both sides. Trump's lawyers have asked for all 7 causes of action in the New York attorney general's complaint to be dismissed, and James claims that the defendants have made frivolous arguments, Engoron said.
Trump's lawyers contended that James has "no valid authority" to sue, that the lawsuit was filed outside the statute of limitations and that her office has “failed to demonstrate any even theoretical harm to anyone, public or private.” James's case is "out of context," Trump lawyer Christopher Kise said during the hearing, insisting that the defendants did not commit fraud. He said the attorney general's arguments boiled down to, "Believe me, this is fraud."
James' office has asked the court to find the Trumps and their family business, the Trump Organization, liable for fraud even before the trial is set to begin Oct. 2. "The undisputed evidence establishes that Defendants employed a variety of deceptive schemes to grossly inflated values for many of Mr. Trump’s assets," her office wrote in a filing.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... condition/In another display of cognitive impairment, Donald Trump appeared to confuse Jeb Bush with George Bush, suggesting either that he ran against George Bush in the primary of the 2016 election or that Jeb Bush deployed troops in the Middle East.
Trump: "We came down here. You know, the beauty was when I came here. Everyone thought Bush was going to win. And then they took a poll and found out Trump was up by about 50 points. Everyone said, 'What's going on right here?' They thought Bush, because Bush supposedly was a military person. Great. You know what he was? He got us into the... He got us into the Middle East. How did that work out, right? But they all thought that Bush might win. Jeb, remember Jeb?"
This isn’t the first time Trump has displayed concerning signs regarding his mental fitness. During a recent speech in Washington D.C., Trump appeared confused when he suggested he was leading former President Barack Obama in the polls. In the same video, Trump appeared to struggle while trying to remember he ran against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

A judge on Tuesday ruled that former President Donald Trump and his company are liable for fraud in a lawsuit by the New York Attorney General’s Office.
Judge Arthur Engoron as part of that ruling cancelled the business certificates of Trump and the other defendants in the suit in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The judge ordered that within 10 days, the defendants must recommend no more than three potential independent receivers to manage the dissolution of the corporations which the judge has canceled business certificates for.
