Resident Evil 9 is arriving in 2025, says industry insider

Published 14:15, 19 July 2023 BST

Buckle up, Resi fans - the next new entry in the series is allegedly already in development, and it could be upon us in 2025.

Since the release of Resident Evil 4 (as in, the remake) earlier this year, it’s not been clear exactly what’s next for the franchise. However, the rumour mill has already begun turning, and last month, one insider claimed that none other than Chris Redfield will be returning as the main protagonist in Resident Evil 9, which is sure to put the fear of God in boulders everywhere.

Furthermore, it was claimed that other classic characters like Leon, Jill and Claire are going to be included alongside Chris, so if the rumours are true, we could have an all-star Resident Evil cast on our hands. However, it’s also alleged that there’ll be more focus on action than horror, which might prove to be divisive.

Now though, as highlighted on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, prominent industry insider Dusk Golem has claimed that Resident Evil 9 will likely be revealed next year ahead of its release in 2025. Speaking on Discord with another user who asked if “we should expect Resident Evil 9 next year”, Dusk Golem responded: “2025, I’ll say that much, though probably will be announced next year.”

The insider also teased that there’s “a big Capcom game being announced at the end of the year that’s likely releasing in fall 2024”, but they didn’t give any indication as to what this might be. On Reddit though, gamers have their own theories.

My game of the year hands down, maybe even game of the decade. The art style is completely unique, the gameplay is really fun and the story is great.

Same! Defcon is my favorite of the 3 but no one will play it with me these days because I always win lol. Not like that with most RTS games, usually I lose at RTS but not with defcon. Multiwinia is a lot of fun too with friends.

This video really highlights how awesome mechwarrior online still is when you get a good match. I think the graphics are great even today too, the art design + cryengine stand the test of time. This community is uniquely active on voice chat too in a way that really pulls it all together.

My latest progress in Resident Evil 4 remake (PC).

Btw, I asked ChatGPT to describe the franchise. Here's what it said:

"Few games do horror quite like the Resident Evil series, a franchise that has set the standard for survival horror since its debut in 1996. Beyond the spine-tingling atmosphere and the meticulously designed, labyrinthine environments, it's the attention to detail in storytelling and character development that elevates the series to iconic status. Zombies, bioweapons, and a myriad of other grotesque creatures are more than just obstacles; they are essential components of a larger, more insidious narrative that often critiques corporate greed and human folly. But it's not just about the monsters; it's also about the humans struggling to survive against insurmountable odds, whose vulnerabilities and strengths are put under a microscope. The eerie sound design, from the distant growls to the subtle creaks of a dilapidated mansion, adds layers to the tension, making even an empty hallway a space of dreadful anticipation. Combine that with gameplay mechanics that deliberately limit resources, forcing players to make each bullet, herb, and maneuver count, and you have a recipe for nerve-wracking immersion. Resident Evil doesn't just aim to startle you with cheap jump scares; it seeks to create a lingering sense of unease that stays with you long after you've turned off the console."

Okay, last mechwarrior post for a while. Going over to a friends house to play battletech today too, I've been sucked into the rabbit hole.

Microsoft-Activision deal: Biggest tie-up in gaming history nears conclusion after nod from British regulators

13 Oct 2023, 03:32 PM IST

The British Competition and Markets Authority cleared Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard on Friday – the final regulatory hurdle before the biggest ever gaming deal. UK had previously blocked the takeover in April over competition concerns and forced the company to restructure some of its terms.

The Competition and Markets Authority said that its competition concerns had been assuaged by the updated terms. The restructured offer will see Microsoft will sell off cloud streaming rights outside of the EU and three other European countries for all current and new Activision games released over the next 15 years to French game studio Ubisoft Entertainment.

“We have now crossed the final regulatory hurdle to close this acquisition, which we believe will benefit players and the gaming industry worldwide," Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith said in a statement.

A nice, relaxing game coming out in 2024.
