Personal chat thread
Re: Personal chat thread
As part of the ongoing saga with my teeth, I went to another dentist today. This one had some really hi-tech equipment that was seriously impressive!
She did a complete scan of my mouth, and the machine generated images of everything on a screen. Try to imagine a kind of interactive, 3D model, which you can rotate and zoom into with very high resolution, on a touchscreen tablet. Every little detail of my teeth could be seen in photorealistic 3D!
Not only that, but I was given the option of a treatment called "Invisalign", which can fix the alignment of your teeth. The computer even simulates your teeth, and generates a timelapse, to show how they could improve over time! (the treatment itself can take a few months)
The final stage of the consultation involved taking a photo of me standing against the wall, and the software even generated a picture of me with "perfect" teeth, haha.
I have a few teeth that could do with straightening, so I might consider Invisalign at some point, although it's pretty expensive.

I'm gonna try some blue light blocking glasses, because my sleep is just f***ed at the moment. Waking up at 4-5am every single morning for the last several weeks, and feeling lethargic all day. I haven't worn glasses since 2008, the year I had Lasik.
Re: Personal chat thread
An injured pigeon flew into my garden. I could see its left wing had been damaged and quite badly grazed, possibly by a cat. It hobbled around my patio for a while, and into the undergrowth, going around in what looked like a kind of daze.
It came closer a few times, and I was able to get a better look at its condition. Normally they'd fly off when I get close, but this one looked too injured to do much of anything. At times, it almost seemed like it wanted my help.
So I looked online, and was about to try the RSPCA, when it suddenly jumped up, onto the roof of my shed. It appeared to regain some energy, and then I heard the beating of wings, as it flew off into a neighbouring garden. I hope it's okay and recovers.

Re: Personal chat thread
Since creating my Metaculus account, I have made 4 questions to date which are: -
[*]Will Ukraine have de-facto control over the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts before January 1st, 2030?
[*]When will there be a round trip crewed mission to Neptune's orbit?
[*]When will a retail supermarket operate fully with A.I?
[*]When will a crewed mission orbit around Neptune's moon Triton?
The fourth however, will be officially put up in 2 days time after I had to wait for a while for the admin to adjust a few things after the Neptune question was up and running. I will be making more questions tomorrow afternoon at my friends and I also am very intrigued with the website Nightcafe.Studio where you create A.I images currently I have created quite a few since joining on the 2nd October.

Jay in my garden.
A very shy bird – it flies away at the slightest hint of noise or movement.
In fact, this is one of a pair. I will try to get a photo of them together.
Very difficult though, as they're startled so easily!

If you recall squid game, right now there is a tv show called "Squid Game Challenges"
Remember Mr Beast making a squid game in real life?
This show is a real life squid game set up by a large corporation spanning multi-40-minute episodes with only adults.
In Australia it is on my Netflix (likely in your country too) I think the show was made in the UK.
I would recommend it.

I sometimes have this very depressive thought, that older generations are largely responsible for this f***ed world (there were about 300 000 years to make Earth a nice place), they force you to live in it, force you to learn their horrible mistakes of the past and then force you to observe how people of the present repeat similar mistakes over and over again. Isn't it just awful?

Re: Personal chat thread
Well I thought my day started well until I pulled my curtains and the pole ended up nearly falling off with some of the top part of my new UPVC Windows I had in my bedroom, now have to wait for my mum to get back to look at the assessment of it even though I said about the pole falling off to her months ago and still hasn't fixed it. This rate I'll chuck the whole of it in the bin and get someone out to fix the whole top wall and bit of window which should of been done then.

It is related to a big "catch up" in skills?erowind wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 11:06 am I just learned that the unemployment rate for autistic people is ~80%. That really speaks volumes to why life has been so hard for me for so long. That 80% statistic isn't reducible to some bad hiring practice or some simple formula that businesses can just apply to remedy the situation. The hardship and lack of ability to cope with the stressors of society start at the youngest age for many of us. From elementary school all the way through into adulthood everything is fundamentally harder in a myriad of ways that can't be summarized briefly.
Understanding how pervasive ableism is in this society helps make me feel less guilty for "my failings" but it doesn't make me feel less mournful at missing out on decades of experiences that other people just have organically without difficulty.
This isn't a sob post I promise, it's more just me putting my thoughts out there as I'm processing them.

After 7 months I decided to step down as an admin on their Doctor Who FB group due to over the upcoming days I would be doing more hours at work and two that they were saying that me and another admin weren't shifting our weight as they and not doing alot of administrative roles on their group. To be honest, a few months ago, I wasn't really planning on being an admin of a group on FB anyway and was planning to leave the entire site.
