https://www.commondreams.org/news/gaza-2666425151More than 700 people were killed in the Gaza Strip in just 24 hours, the Health Ministry in the besieged territory said Sunday, as Israeli bombings escalated following a brief pause and wider evacuation orders stoke fears of wider displacement and carnage.
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has been dropping evacuation leaflets across the south of Gaza in cities that include Khan Younis, Rafah, and others neighborhoods where many had been told to flee by Israel prior to the recent week-long pause.
The IDF is now using a wholly invented "grid system" to tell Palestinians in Gaza which sectors might be safe and which ones will not, leading to reports of widespread confusion on the ground for those trying to keep themselves and their families safe from the indiscriminate bombing.
"What Israel is doing in Gaza right now is one of the most cruel tactics of war I've ever seen," said Rohan Talbot, director of advocacy and campaigns for the U.K.-based Medical Aid Palestine, on Sunday. "This grid system effectively means people are being chased from square to square, in constant mortal fear. Bombing happens both inside and outside 'unsafe' areas. It's terrorism."

Re: Israel's conflict with its neighbours
Here is my solution.
Lets be honest, there will never be peace as long as the jews are in the holy land and that is the cold truth. Well, why not offer every jew of Israel citizenship in the united states. Full birth citizenship with all the rights! We could sweeten the deal where each one gets enough money to move to our country and can start life here as Americans.
WE give the land in the middle east to a new palanstian state.
We could also grant them free airline tickets

Let's just have a multicultural Palestine with constitutional protections for Jews
Re: Israel's conflict with its neighbours
Or move all of them over to New York City. It's the largest Jewish city in the world anyway.

Plus, it is not as if New Jersy and New York are about to go to war with each other.
Don't mourn, organize.

Read more here: https://www.axios.com/2023/12/08/us-ve ... easefire(Axios) The U.S. vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza on Friday.
Why it matters: This is the second time the U.S. has been the only opposing vote on such a resolution — indicating its ongoing support for Israel, which is under international pressure as its military campaign continues.
• In Friday's vote, 13 of the 15 Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution, with the U.K. abstaining.
• The draft resolution was co-sponsored by 97 UN member states.
Driving the news: The vote took place two days after UN Secretary-General António Guterres invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter to push for a ceasefire.
Don't mourn, organize.

US State Department to bypass congressional review period to send thousands of munitions to Israel

Read more: https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/08/politics ... index.htmlCNN — The US State Department transmitted an emergency declaration to lawmakers late Friday night for the sale of thousands of munitions to Israel, bypassing the standard 20-day period that congressional committees are typically afforded to review such a sale, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told CNN.
The declaration followed a request by the State Department earlier in the week for Congress to approve the sale of 45,000 shells to Israel for its Merkava tanks. The source added that the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which have oversight over military sales, had been under “pressure” from the State Department to approve the request quickly amid Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
The committees typically have 20 days to review foreign military sales, allowing lawmakers to raise questions about a transaction and delay it if needed. But late Friday night, the State Department transmitted an emergency declaration to the committees for over 13,000 of the tank shells, worth about $106 million, for immediate delivery to Israel, the source said Saturday. “Effective immediately, the items can be transferred,” the source said. “No further information, details or assurances were provided.”
The administration’s move to transfer some of the munitions comes as the US is under growing domestic and international pressure to support a ceasefire in Gaza and place conditions on some of the weapons it is providing to Israel. A State Department spokesperson confirmed to CNN on Saturday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken notified Congress on Friday “that he had exercised his delegated authority to determine an emergency existed necessitating the immediate approval of the transfer” of the tank munitions.
