The League of Conservation Voters, a climate-focused group, pledged to donate $120 million to Biden’s reelection, the Times reports, putting the fundraising haul by outside groups over the $1 billion mark.
The biggest groups spending money on Biden’s reelection are super PAC Future Forward, the Service Employees International Union and research organization American Bridge, according to the Times, which have pledged between $140 million and $250 million on advertising and other campaign help.
Outside groups—which cannot directly coordinate with the Biden campaign—are likely to raise between $2.5 billion and $3 billion by November, former Emily’s List president Stephanie Schriock predicted to the Times.

Outside GOP groups are similarly likely to spend a lot of money on Trump’s reelection, the Times notes, but it’s hard to compare the two camps’ fundraising hauls right now. While Democratic groups pledge money even before it’s necessarily all raised, Republican groups rely more on big donors and don’t announce their plans in advance, the Times reports. Among the outside groups expected to spend big on Trump is evangelical group Faith & Freedom, which has already pledged $62 million to support the ex-president.

The district had an R+24 partisan lean in the Cook Partisan Voting Index (PVI), making it the most Republican-leaning district in Illinois.[1] Bost, who had represented the district since 2015, won re-election in 2022 with 75% of the vote.
According to WBEZ's Alex Degman, "[the] candidates have a lot in common — both are staunchly Christian and hold strong, conservative views on abortion rights, the Second Amendment and immigration. The difference may be in their approach — Bost calls himself a 'governing conservative,' which means he stands for conservative values but works with others to pass legislation. ... Bailey says Bost's experience and his collaborative approach are precisely the problem."[2]
Bost was first elected in 2014 when he defeated incumbent Bill Enyart (D) 53%-42%. Bost previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995 to 2015. He also served as an electronic specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps and as treasurer of Murphysboro Township.[3][4]
Bost highlighted immigration, abortion, and gun policy as key issues.[5][2] Bost also contrasted his legislative experience and governing approach to Bailey's. Bost said, "Our real issue [in Congress] is to try to gain ground where we can gain ground and actually govern from the small majority that we have. … Unfortunately, we have people that are more interested in being on social media to get likes and also who work to get on a 24-hour news network."[2]

House GOP leadership has split their endorsements in this primary. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) endorsed Merrin.[10] Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) endorsed Riedel.[11] Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) endorsed Riedel but withdrew her endorsement after the Charlie Kirk Show aired audio of Riedel criticizing former President Donald Trump (R). After the audio aired Riedel announced his endorsement of Trump in the 2024 presidential election and said, “Matt Gaetz and a social media trickster pulled a stunt yesterday to try and convince President Trump to get involved in my congressional primary for proven loser JR Majewski.” Stefanik had not endorsed anyone else in this primary.[12] Majewski received endorsements from Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.).[13]

While the former president won the primary with 910,857 votes, 81.2 percent of the overall share, some 197,000 people, or 17.8 percent, voted for either Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis, despite both candidates having dropped out of the race.
The results suggest the former president is losing support in Florida compared with the previous election in 2020. That year, he won about 94 percent of the state vote in the primary.
The Republican went on to take the state in 2020 by a slim margin, securing 51.2 percent of the vote to Joe Biden's 47.9 percent. Newsweek contacted a representative for Trump by email to comment on this story.

This is the second of what looks like four elections in California’s 20th, the state’s most heavily GOP congressional district where 47% of registered voters are Republican and 27% are Democrats.
Assemblyman Vince Fong, R-Bakersfield, will advance to the May 21 runoff, the Associated Press predicted around 8:40 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday. He had 40.4% of the votes with an estimated 81% counted.
In the race for second were Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, a Republican, who had 26.1% and Bakersfield school teacher Marisa Wood, a Democrat, who had 23.6%.
The special election will determine who immediately succeeds McCarthy, 59, who retired in December after his ousting as Speaker of the House.

Conclusion:(Mother Jones) During a rally in Vandalia, Ohio, over the weekend, Donald Trump spoke of a coming “bloodbath” for the auto industry and for the country should Republicans lose big in 2024 and not be able to impose their policy agenda.
But there was another bloodbath playing out in front of the embattled former president facing 88 criminal charges: a messy, jab-throwing, three-way Republican primary for the Ohio Senate seat Democrat Sherrod Brown has occupied since 2006.
Bernie Moreno, a Trump-endorsed former luxury car dealer, emerged victorious as the GOP nominee for Senate Tuesday night, pulling in upwards of 46 percent of the vote as of 9 pm ET. Moreno defeated Matt Dolan, a state senator and scion of the family that owns the Cleveland Guardians MLB team, and Frank LaRose, the Ohio secretary of state who last year futilely attempted to block reproductive health rights in two separate state ballot initiatives. Final polling ahead of Tuesday’s contest had shown Moreno with 38 percent of voters’ support, versus Dolan’s 29 percent and LaRose’s 12 percent.
Ohio’s race has been expensive monetarily, with $40 million in ad spending as of Monday—trailing only the presidential race and the California Senate primary in the 2024 cycle. (Both independently wealthy, Dolan and Moreno contributed more than $11 million and $5 million to their own campaigns, respectively.)
