War a real threat and Europe not ready, warns Poland's Tusk
3 hours ago

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has delivered a blunt warning that Europe has entered a "pre-war era" and if Ukraine is defeated by Russia, nobody in Europe will be able to feel safe.

"I don't want to scare anyone, but war is no longer a concept from the past," he told European media. "It's real and it started over two years ago."

His remarks came as a fresh barrage of Russian missiles targeted Ukraine.

Russia has intensified its bombardment of Ukraine in recent weeks.

Ukraine's air force said it had shot down 58 drones and 26 missiles and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said energy infrastructure had been damaged in six regions, in the west, centre and east of the country.

Mr Tusk, a former president of the European Council, said Russian President Vladimir Putin had already blamed Ukraine for the jihadist attack on Moscow's Crocus City Hall without any evidence and "evidently feels the need to justify increasingly violent attacks on civil targets in Ukraine".

UPDATE: Trump's team has (obviously) denied this.

https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/04/8/7450246/

Of course this don't change nothing. However, the very fact that his team had to deny it shows that many still support Ukraine, and as such, the backlash is something that must be dealt with immediately.

Call me foolish but I think all the resources from Ukraine would be moved to Taiwan to dissuade an invasion there. Unless China attacks before of course.

Mass use of guided bombs driving Russian advances, says Ukraine

Thu 11 Apr 2024 08.00 BST

The mass use of “drop-and-forget” guided bombs containing foreign components is driving Russian advances in Ukraine, with up to 500 now being fired a week, according to a Ukrainian government analysis.

High explosive and cluster bombs fitted with “UMPC” guiding systems with a range of 40-60km (25-37 miles) are now said to be a central threat on the frontline, forcing back Ukrainian forces.

According to a Ukrainian government report obtained by the Guardian, such weapons fired from afar by aircraft “played a key role in the destruction of [the eastern city of] Avdiivka and the seizure of its ruins by Russia”.

Russia took full control in mid-February of Avdiivka, in the industrial Donbas region, its biggest gain since capturing Bakhmut last May.

The Ukrainian analysts write: “Russia uses UMPC bombs primarily to its targets in frontline areas, minimising the possibility of its own aircraft being hit by Ukrainian air defences. In just one week, from 26 February to 3 March, Russia used more than 500 [guided aerial bombs with a mounted UMPC]”.

Russian strikes completely destroy key Ukrainian power plant

A major power plant near Kyiv was completely destroyed by Russian strikes early on Thursday, energy company Centrenergo said.

Trypillya power plant was the largest provider of electricity for three regions, including Kyiv.

"The scale of destruction is terrifying," Centrenergo chairman Andriy Hota said.

Russia has long been deliberately and systematically targeting Ukraine's energy system.

Mr Hota told the BBC that Thursday morning's strikes destroyed "the transformer, the turbines, the generators. They destroyed 100%".

NATO Ally Confirms F-16 to Ukraine as 'Entire Fleet' Decommissioned

Source: Newsweek

Published Apr 22, 2024 at 4:03 AM EDT | Updated Apr 22, 2024 at 7:22 AM EDT

The Danish ambassador to Ukraine has said Kyiv will receive F-16 fighter jets from Denmark this summer, as promised. "Don't worry; there will definitely be airplanes for Ukraine," Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen said in an interview with Ukrainian news outlet Mi-Ukraina on Sunday.

He added that Denmark's entire fleet of F-16s was being decommissioned, and some would go to Argentina. Denmark's government plans to donate 19 F-16 fighter aircraft to Ukraine, the Danish Defense Ministry told Newsweek in January. Denmark's F-16s will add to a growing fleet of fighter jets already promised to Ukraine by its key allies, with Kyiv hoping to deploy them to the frontlines as early as this year.

In January 2024, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine's foreign minister, confirmed that preparations for the delivery of the batch of jets promised by Denmark were going according to plan. The sentiment was echoed by Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen in February.

Last year several countries alongside Denmark—including the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium—pledged to provide the jets to Ukraine, although the exact timelines for their arrival are subject to change. And on April 9, another ally, Greece, said it could transfer up to 32 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, according to Greek media, suggesting that Kyiv could also receive 24 French-made Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets.

Ukraine war: Kyiv limits consular help for men of fighting age abroad
47 minutes ago

Ukraine is suspending consular services for male citizens aged 18 to 60 abroad as part of a drive to beef up numbers joining the military.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said protecting the rights of Ukrainians was still key but "the main priority is to protect our homeland from destruction" during Russia's full-scale invasion.

Russia has a big advantage in numbers and weapons on the battlefield.

Kyiv recently lowered the age of mobilisation from 27 to 25.

After "inviting" Ukrainian men abroad to return home last December, it seems the government wants to apply more pressure, by denying them potentially vital services overseas.

Biden says US to begin sending military equipment to Ukraine within 'hours'

Source: ABC News

April 24, 2024, 12:15 PM

The U.S. will begin sending military equipment to Ukraine within "a few hours" after the passage of a long-stalled foreign aid package, President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday.

In remarks from the White House, Biden said he signed the $95 billion package. He said it will make both America and the world "safer."

"It was a difficult path [to my desk] and it should have been easier, and it should have gotten there sooner," Biden said of the legislation, which was first requested by the administration last fall and seemed all but dead due to GOP-led opposition in the House before the sudden reversal of Speaker Mike Johnson.

"But in the end, we did what America always does: we rose to the moment, came together and we got it done," the president continued. "Now we need to move fast, and we are."
