Tesla Dojo: Elon Musk’s Big Plan to Build an AI Supercomputer Explained
by Rebecca Bellan
August 3, 2024

Introduction:
(TechCrunch) For years, Elon Musk has talked about Dojo — the AI supercomputer that will be the cornerstone of Tesla’s AI ambitions. It’s important enough to Musk that he recently said the company’s AI team is going to “double down” on Dojo as Tesla gears up to reveal its robotaxi in October.

But what exactly is Dojo? And why is it so critical to Tesla’s long-term strategy?

In short: Dojo is Tesla’s custom-built supercomputer that’s designed to train its “Full Self-Driving” neural networks. Beefing up Dojo goes hand-in-hand with Tesla’s goal to reach full self-driving and bring a robotaxi to market. FSD, which is on about 2 million Tesla vehicles today, can perform some automated driving tasks, but still requires a human to be attentive behind the wheel.

Tesla delayed the reveal of its robotaxi, which was slated for August, to October, but both Musk’s public rhetoric and information from sources inside Tesla tell us that the goal of autonomy isn’t going away.

And Tesla appears poised to spend big on AI and Dojo to reach that feat.

Elon Musk's superhuman vision system looks terrible in simulations

Elon Musk's superhuman vision system looks terrible in simulations

Elon Musk's ambitious eye implants that "ultimately may exceed normal human vision" are unlikely to reach this lofty benchmark, according to scientists who have used 'virtual patients' to expose the limitations of this innovative technology. Because even the greatest engineering is no match for human neurophysiology in restoring sight.

ROSSMANN no longer buys Tesla

06.08.2024

ROSSMANN will not purchase any more Tesla vehicles for its fleet with immediate effect. This decision is based on the incompatibility between the statements of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values that Tesla represents with its products.

In 2018, Elon Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Tesla exists to help reduce risk of catastrophic climate change, which affects all species on Earth. [...]”.

"Elon Musk makes no secret of his support for Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly described climate change as a hoax - this attitude is in stark contrast to Tesla's mission to contribute to environmental protection through the production of electric cars," said Raoul Roßmann, spokesman for the management.

For this reason, the ROSSMANN company will no longer purchase Tesla vehicles for its fleet in the future. ROSSMANN will continue to use the current stock of Tesla vehicles for reasons of sustainability and resource conservation. However, the company will rely on alternative manufacturers and models for future vehicle orders.

Not sure this deserves it's own thread (although not sure which thread it would fit in - Cybernetics/Cyborgs maybe? We got a thread for that?).

I agree with the scientists, least for as long as our only technology still remains man-made technology. Once we get AGI or perhaps ASI that might change and an implant or prosthetic eye may give us better vision than our human biology ever could - but we don't have such yet, and no telling how long to get an AGI in general much less one needed to make this possible. For now, our best bet for restoring sight to the blind, or giving sight to the blind who never had sight to begin with, is medical research to bioprint new eyes, attach eyes to nerves, grow or bioprint nerves, and grow synapses.

Muskrats have been merged. Speaking of, I really do wonder what will become of said Muskrat for his continued election interference. Tis a shame, because I really do support initiatives like Neuralink, EVs, more excursions into space, etc. But we shouldn't be locked into the fantasy that these advances are the brainchild of a single person and can better seek them without narcissistic egotism.

Elon Musk’s pro-Trump political action committee is in hot water after the North Carolina attorney general’s office announced Monday that it is looking into the group’s collection of personal data.

A complaint was made to the state election board claiming that Musk’s America PAC collected personal data instead of its promised goal of helping people register to vote. Specifically, the PAC asked website users for data such as their ZIP code, address, and a phone number in order to help them register to vote. But if the person lived in a battleground state, they were never actually registered to vote. Only those who lived in states not considered competitive were redirected to their state’s voter registration pages.

I hope a federal investigation happens soon if possible.

Turns out it wasn't one at all. It was your typical bandwidth issues with all that traffic.

Elon Musk is delusional, says Tory leadership hopeful Tom Tugendhat
Tuesday 13 August 2024 16:07, UK

Conservative leadership hopeful Tom Tugendhat has called Elon Musk's claim civil war was inevitable in the UK "delusional".

In his first major speech since declaring his bid for the Conservative leadership, the former security minister hit out at the billionaire X owner who has been criticising Sir Keir Starmer's response to the week of riots that broke out following the Southport stabbings.

Musk had said "civil war is inevitable" during the middle of the riots, which saw violent disorder in many cities and towns across the UK.

Mr Tugendhat said: "Frankly I found those comments delusional and simply false. The question as to how we operate on social media is a difficult one."

Giving the example of TikTok, he said: "I refuse to be on TikTok because the algorithm is set by a foreign dictatorship. Others make different choices."

San Francisco To Elon Musk: Good Riddance
08/25/24 AT 4:06 PM EDT

San Francisco officials are giving Elon Musk and his companies the kind of rude kiss-off he's known for: "Good riddance!"

The miffed Musk has announced he's packing up his things and taking X headquarters from San Francisco off to Austin, Texas, and moving SpaceX from Hawthorne, California, to the longhorn state.

Musk is quitting the state in a snit, he says, because of a new California law that prohibits schools from notifying parents if their children expresses a desire to change their gender identity.

Musk cited the gender identity law as the "final straw," saying it and other state laws "attack both families and companies."

So now he's leaving.
