"Slow motion"
If building detention camps and pogroming Muslims is "slow motion", I'd hate to see what an accelerated pace looks like
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

All that is left is for Modi to emphasize supremacy of the military for fascism to successfully take root

It Won’t Just Be Haitians Who Suffer from Anti-Immigrant Lies
by Chisom Okorafor
October 8, 2024

Introduction:
(Other Words) For weeks now, right-wing pundits and politicians have spread baseless claims about Haitian immigrants.

These lies have caused immense fear among the community, leading to bomb threats, harassment, and vandalism. The Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio — the first but not the last to be targeted — reported being “scared for their lives”.

I’m not Haitian. I’m an American-born citizen who’s never set foot in Ohio.
But as the daughter of a Black immigrant family, these lies worry me, too.

I know personally how easily identifiable we are. Even though my Nigerian parents were both naturalized over 20 years ago, they still have strong accents. We have distinctive names. To someone who was radicalized by the hateful rhetoric flying around, my family and I are obvious targets.

Just like how Donald Trump’s earlier comments targeting Mexican or Chinese people spawned a wave of hate against all Latin Americans, Asians, or others thought to “look” Mexican or Chinese, the baseless accusations about Haitians will rebound to all Black immigrants — and the Black community as a whole.

caltrek’s comment: It is not even just people of color. Many Hispanics look very European in appearance as do many Jews. If they can come after immigrants, then it is an easy step to “accidently” deport those born and raised in the U.S. Who is an outsider will be a matter of who Trump and Vance declare to be an outsider. Don’t fool yourself into believing that you are safe, especially if you are otherwise willing to be critical of policies that you encounter.
Don't mourn, organize.

Esper: Take Trump comments about using military against Americans 'seriously'

Source: The Hill

10/15/24 7:43 AM ET

Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, who served in the Trump administration, said Monday the public should take former President Trump “seriously” when he suggests using the military against American citizens.

“Yes I do, of course,” Esper told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on “The Source” when asked whether he fears Trump would “try to utilize the National Guard, the military, against U.S. citizens.”

“Because I lived through that, and I saw over the summer of 2020 where President Trump and those around him wanted to use the National Guard in various capacities in cities such as Chicago and Portland and Seattle,” Esper said.

Esper noted specifically an instance from June 2020 when, he said, Trump “wanted to bring in active duty military as well” against protesters. “So that’s what equally concerns me about his comment would be the use of the military in these types of things,” Esper added.

"Fascist-to-the-core" GOP Candidate
by Abby Zimet
October 16, 2024

Introduction:
(Common Dreams) Sorry again to return to this execrable human being, but it keeps getting worse and weirder. This weekend, the "fascist-to-the-core" GOP candidate held an "Ultimate Trump Boat Parade" featuring neo-Nazis flying swastikas and yelling "Make America White Again!" Then he held a garbled "town hall" that mostly featured 40 minutes of him woodenly, inexplicably swaying glassy-eyed on stage to James Brown and Ave Maria. The consensus: "The October surprise is that Trump has completely lost his marbles."

Since the start of his vitriolic political rise, Trump has brazenly trafficked in once-unimaginable racist tropes. But in recent weeks, with his campaign and mind spiraling, he's increasingly embraced outright, blood-and-soil, fascist rhetoric: Brown-skinned migrants are monsters, rapists, stone-cold killers "infecting" our pristine shores with their blood libel against lovable pets while allying with Dems, Jews, queers, people of color and other "enemies from within" to usher in an amorphous apocalypse, ingeniously merging fascism and Marxism, only he can stop. Many note this is Authoritarianism 101, from a time-worn playbook in which a demagogue appeals to a disaffected populace who feel they've lost their political, economic or cultural power and need someone to blame for that loss; a Great Orange Leader gives them that, along with a welcome moral pass, in exchange for their unswerving loyalty in the face of what are often his lunatic, growing flaws and failings. Hence the judgment of Mark Milley, formerly the nation's and his own highest ranking military officer, that Trump is "now the most dangerous person in this country - a fascist to the core."

In one recent move toward totalitarianism, Trump said he'd use the military to quell "very bad people" like Adam Schiff and other dangerous critics, prompting brave GOP pols like Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, when asked about it, to literally stammer in terror, "I don’t think that, again, I can’t speak for him, but I do - I do think that you are misinterpreting his 'thoughts','' even when directly quoted to him. Another dubious move: Announcing an upcoming rally at New York's Madison Square Garden suspiciously akin to an infamous 1939 Nazi rally, also at the Garden, organized by the pro-Hitler German American Bund.
