US investigates leaked documents alleging Israel plans to attack Iran
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ttack-iranSun 20 Oct 2024 19.50 BST
The US government is investigating an unauthorised release of classified documents that assess Israel’s plans to attack Iran.
The US House speaker, Mike Johnson, confirmed the investigation in remarks to CNN’s State of the Union programme on Sunday, saying the leak was very concerning.
“There’s some serious allegations being made there,” the Republican from Louisiana said. “The investigation’s under way, and I’ll get a briefing on that in a couple of hours.”
A US official told the Associated Press the documents in question appeared to be legitimate, but the Guardian was not immediately able to verify their authenticity.
The documents are attributed to the US Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency. They are written in a style similar to documents previously leaked from the Pentagon, using classifications familiar to the national security community.
“In the quantum multiverse, every choice, every decision you've ever and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.”

"SNIP............
A new study by the non-partisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget found that Donald Trump’s plans for Social Security would drive the program toward insolvency and cut benefits by 33%.
According to the CRFB:
In fact, we find President Trump’s campaign proposals would dramatically worsen Social Security’s finances.
President Trump’s proposals to eliminate taxation of Social Security benefits, end taxes on tips and overtime, impose tariffs, and expand deportations would all widen Social Security’s cash deficits. Under our central estimate, we find that President Trump’s agenda would:
Increase Social Security’s ten-year cash shortfall by $2.3 trillion through FY 2035.
Advance insolvency by three years, from FY 2034 to FY 2031 – hastening the next President’s insolvency timeline by one-third.
Lead to a 33 percent across-the-board benefit cut in 2035, up from the 23 percent CBO projects under current law.
Increase Social Security’s annual shortfall by roughly 50 percent in FY 2035, from 3.6 to 4 percent of payroll.
Require the equivalent of reducing current law benefits by about one-third or increasing revenue by about one-half to restore 75-year solvency.

Makes one feel a sense of, unease, when it happens "relatively" closer. This part of Washington is more moderate than either Portland or Seattle, but I wouldn't figure enough to pull something like this...
If this is an indicator of what's soon to be, then:

Missouri Voted on Abortion Rights and Abortion Rights Won

caltrek’s comment: Weird how voters adopt progressive ballot measures even as they vote for reactionary politicians.

November 5, 2024
Introduction:
Read more here: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2 ... election/(Mother Jones) The first state to ban abortion after the fall of Roe v. Wade just became the first state to have a near-total abortion ban reversed by popular vote.
The people of Missouri voted on Tuesday to create a constitutional right to “reproductive freedom”—defined as the ability to make and carry out one’s own decisions about abortion, birth control, and health care during pregnancy—approving Amendment 3 by almost 54 percent of the vote as of 11:30 p.m. Central Time, according to the Associated Press.
Amendment 3 was part of a nationwide effort by reproductive rights groups to use ballot initiatives to restore abortion rights state by state after the Supreme Court wiped out the national right to abortion. On Election Day this year, 10 states voted on abortion rights ballot measures.
In deep-red Missouri, where the state government is controlled by avowed abortion foes, even getting this initiative before voters was a feat.
Republican state officials repeatedly threw up barriers to the process of certifying the ballot language and gathering signatures, leading to a series of bitter legal battles that all, ultimately, were decided in favor of abortion rights advocates.
caltrek’s comment: Weird how voters adopt progressive ballot measures even as they vote for reactionary politicians.
Don't mourn, organize.
