Truth be told even if it did the United states would literally walk through it within a few weeks. A president that wants to flex the full might of our military could take over a large percentage of the world.

So, to sum it up:

Mass deportations.

Purchase Greenland.

Retake Panama.

Invade Mexico.

Stop democratic functioning of the government until the new administration takes office, at the behest of someone who isn't even president elect.

And this is what a majority of Americans voted for, yes? What basically amounts to a very much Imperial version of the United States?

It's what a plurality of Americans voted for. Trump didn't get an absolute majority (though you could say a majority are in the Trump/RFK general crazy category).

The following news article gives evidence to an old psychologist versus political science debate in which the psychologists “win” the argument. The debate is over how to cope with bad political news. The psychological argument is to avoid such news. Understanding what politicians are up to will only increase your anger and blood pressure. The political science argument is that it is important to understand what is coming down and the best way to cope is to become more politically engaged and struggle against what is happening. Participating in this struggle can thus have a therapeutic benefit.

Most Americans are Avoiding Political News
April Rubin
December 29, 2024

Introduction:
(Axios) About two-thirds of Americans have recently felt the need to limit their political news consumption, according to a recent poll.
Why it matters: The reluctance to consume political news is reflected in TV ratings. Americans of all parties, and Democrats in particular, are tuning out politics.

• People don't feel the same need to avoid news about overseas conflicts, the economy or climate change, per an AP-NORC survey conducted in early December.

• The poll also found that Americans want public figures to talk less about politics.

By the numbers: About seven in 10 Democrats said they're stepping back from political news.

• About six in 10 Republicans and independents say the same.

Thing is, it's kind of just joever for now. I'm not in the country and therefore can't do much other than post my two cents on various platforms. Any change will have to come from people in the country

I can personally confirm that I've stopped watching the news entirely particularly because of politics.

There won't be change, save for the continuing rise of authoritarian christofascism in this country...

Yeah that will definitely happen. I truly hope that once prices start rising/AGI starts taking jobs, people will recognize this government for what it is and overthrow Dictator Trump. Sadly a bloody civil war would likely ensue, and if the catalyst was AI, expect AI to get banned.

Taking on Musk, Sanders Says Corporate Abuse of H-1B Visa Program Must End
by Jessica Corbett
January 2,2025

Introduction:
(Common Dreams) U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a longtime advocate of reforming H-1B visas, on Thursday reiterated his argument that "widespread corporate abuse" of the guest worker program must end amid a heated battle among Republican President-elect Donald Trump's allies.

"Elon Musk and a number of other billionaire tech company owners have argued that this federal program is vital to our economy because of the scarcity of highly skilled American engineers and other tech workers. I disagree," said Sanders (I-Vt.), a prominent advocate of pro-worker policies including raising the federal minimum wage, in a lengthy statement.

"The main function of the H-1B visa program and other guest worker initiatives is not to hire 'the best and the brightest,' but rather to replace good-paying American jobs with low-wage indentured servants from abroad," he asserted. "The cheaper the labor they hire, the more money the billionaires make."

The fight has pitted some far-right, anti-immigrant Trump supporters against Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the billionaires charged with leading the president-elect's proposed Department of Government Efficiency. Musk, who was born in South Africa and is now the world's richest person, has said he once had an H-1B visa and declared last week that "I will go to war on this issue."

Musk is also CEO of the electric vehicle company Tesla and has used H-1B visas as an employer. So has Trump. The incoming president—who in 2016 pledged to eliminate "rampant, widespread" abuse of "H-1B as a cheap labor program"—said Saturday that "I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I've been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It's a great program."

Thing is, you can't ban an algorithm. How would you handle the AI we've had for literal decades like in computer games? The economy is not just going to kneecap itself, and we're talking about the same country which refuses to ban guns which cause far more immediate damage, by the way. I know you mean the more powerful software, but the Pentagon is not allowing it.

As far as political news goes as the article @caltrek linked, I've avoided it and will continue to do so. Better to instead focus on scientific or technological progress, which can give a better sense of where we are in the larger sense of things. Dynasties rise and fall constantly, but progress remains.

Angry people will force the interim government's hand in the aftermath of a revolution. They could opt to ban large language models and image/video generating models specifically. Humanoid robots would probably face the chopping block as well
