'Popularity Will Plummet': Conservatives Discuss When Voters Will Step Off Trump Train
by David McAfee
March 21, 2025
Introduction:
caltrek’s comment: I will believe it when I see it. There have just been so many predictions of Trump’s impending collapse. There is a difference here. First, the comments are being made by conservatives who presumably have less of a reason to hope for such collapses. Second, Trump did lose the 2020 election due to some of the factors still at play.

Read more of the article here: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politic ... 07&ei=54(Raw Story) Donald Trump is more popular now than he was in his first term, but that isn't likely to last if he keeps on his current path, according to conservative columnists.
The New York Times on Friday published an opinion piece featuring four conservative writers discussing why Trump supporters love the President more than ever before.
Among other things, David Brooks, Ross Douthat, David French and Bret Stephens discussed how the fact that "tariffing" is now a verb "signifies the end of Western civilization."
Brooks put the blame on progressives, who he says push independents toward MAGA.
"A lot of elite conservatives continue to struggle with what I call the near-abroad problem. They may dislike MAGA, but they (we) are mostly around progressives or moderates on a day-to-day basis, by virtue of being elite," according to the conservative. "These progressives sometimes make our teeth hurt. We react more strongly to minor sins of the people across campus than the major sins of the people far away. This is something I’m working on."

Trump planning pricey military parade on his 79th birthday: Report

The Trump administration is reportedly planning a military parade through the streets of Washington, D.C. to celebrate the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary — which just so happens to fall on Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
The D.C. alternative weekly The Washington City Paper reported Sunday that local officials have been briefed to expect a four-mile procession this June 14, a Saturday. The White House apparently denied the report, telling Politico: “No military parade has been scheduled."
Nevertheless, D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed at a press conference on Monday morning that she had been notified about a potential event, though claimed to have received few details. "I would say it's at its early stages," she told reporters. "Yes, they have reached out. I don't know that it's been characterized as a military parade."
When a reporter noted that the parade would reportedly begin at the Pentagon, she smiled and said: "Okay. Well, then it does sound like a military parade." The U.S. Army and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Independent.

No, Donald Trump Does Not Know What the Hell He Is Doing
by S.V. Date
April 13, 2025
Introduction:
The article concludes:
caltrek’s comment: There is a difference between Trump’s first term and now. In the first term, there were advisors who explained to Trump why he could or should not do certain things. They were the adults in the room. Like a petulant child, Trump has grown weary of the guardrails put up by these adults in the room. So, he has instead surrounded himself with staff that are as delusional as he is or are willing to at least act as if they accept his delusional view of the world. So, now the guard rails on his actions are such things as the stock market and the bond market. Reliance on those guard rails comes at a price as most of the planet comes to lose trust in relying on U.S. leadership in financial matters.
Edit: Of course, I suppose there is a greater danger that Trump will decide to not pay attention to the stock and bond markets. In which case those guard rails may become ineffective as first the U.S. and then even the world economy slides first into recession and then even into depression.

Introduction:
The article goes on to explain how these beliefs of Trump are wrong.(Huffingto Post) WASHINGTON — “I know what the hell I’m doing!”
That boaster-in-chief Donald Trump would say something like this is not surprising in the least. With his taking the wheel of a healthy economy and driving it headlong toward a cliff, that a single American can still believe him — now that is a surprise.
At the core of the president’s trade agenda is his “gut” feeling that if a country sells the U.S. more goods than it imports, it is by definition “ripping us off.” He believes that a trade deficit with foreign countries increases the U.S. budget deficit. He thinks that by imposing tariffs, he forces exporting nations to send money to the United States Treasury.
Every single one of his beliefs is dead wrong.
The article concludes:
Read more here: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion ... e17&ei=24Trump’s audience for his “I know what the hell I’m doing” boast last week was Republican members of Congress and their donors. But in the financial markets and in more and more surveys of average Americans, the response has been: No, you most certainly do not.
