Trump Goes After Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society in Fury Over Court Ruling
by Gregory Svirnovsky and Josh Gerstein
May 29, 2025

Introduction:
(Politico) President Donald Trump leveled unusually pointed criticism of a prominent conservative legal activist and organization Thursday as he railed against a ruling that struck down his sweeping tariffs.

The president, in a post on his social media platform, slammed Leonard Leo, the former chair of the Federalist Society, calling him a “sleazebag” who “probably hates America.”

It was a striking characterization of Leo, who played a key role in working with Trump to shape the conservative Supreme Court.

“He openly brags how he controls Judges, and even Justices of the United States Supreme Court — I hope that is not so, and don’t believe it is!,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s attack came after the U.S. Court of International Trade on Wednesday struck down his tariffs, a massive blow to the primary pillar of the administration’s economic agenda. The ruling was temporarily stayed by an appellate court on Thursday. One of the judges on the three-person panel that blocked the tariffs is Timothy Reif, who was appointed by Trump in his first term.

Johnson: Trump did 'exactly what he needed to do' in sending National Guard to LA

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/johnson ... =122614224
"I think Elon knows, at the end of the day, the reason he got involved to help President Trump win and to help Republicans win the majority in the House and the Senate is because he understands that our policies are better for human flourishing, they're better for the U.S. economy, they're better for everything that he's involved in," Johnson said. "I think when the emotion settles down, I think he'll recognize we have no choice. We have to hold the House majority in the 2026 mid-term election, and we will because we've got to allow President Trump four full years, not just two."
wonder what he means by that

Gov. Newsom Files Emergency Motion To Block Trump's Militarization Of LA

Source: Huff Post

Jun 10, 2025, 02:42 PM EDT | Updated an hour ago

Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday filed for an emergency order against President Donald Trump and the Department of Defense, seeking to block what he warned is the “unlawful militarization of Los Angeles.” “Defendants intend to use unlawfully federalized National Guard troops and Marines to accompany federal immigration enforcement officers on raids throughout Los Angeles,” the filing ominously predicts. “They must be stopped, immediately.”

According to the motion, the Trump administration intends to use federalized California National Guard troops to provide support for counter-immigration operations ― and not for protecting federal buildings, as Trump has claimed. “Specifically, these activities ― scheduled to begin today, June 10, 2025 ― will include ‘holding a secure perimeter in communities around areas where immigration enforcement activities would take place, and securing routes over public streets where immigration enforcement officers would travel.’”

The filing notes that on Saturday, before federal troops were deployed, an estimated 250 people were protesting ICE raids in the city the day before. Once Trump ordered in the military, that number swelled to more than 3,000.

“The President is looking for any pretense to place military forces on American streets to intimidate and quiet those who disagree with him. It’s not just immoral — It’s illegal and dangerous,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. “Local law enforcement, not the military, enforce the law within our borders,” he added.

Trump loses appeal of $5 million E. Jean Carroll sexual abuse, defamation verdict

Source: CNBC

Published Thu, Jul 10 2025 3:00 PM EDT Updated 2 Min Ago

A federal appeals court in New York on Thursday upheld a civil jury verdict that found President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer E. Jean Carroll, and which ordered him to pay her $5 million in damages.

A three-judge appeals panel in its unanimous ruling said it concluded that Trump “had not demonstrated that the district court” judge who presided over his trial “erred in any of the challenged rulings.” “Further, he has not carried his burden to show that any claimed error or combination of claimed errors affected his substantial rights as required to warrant a new trial,” wrote the panel the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Trump was appealing a May 2023 verdict by a jury in Manhattan federal court.

That jury found him liable for sexually abusing Carroll in a New York City department store in the 1990s, and for defaming her in late 2022 when he denied her allegation. Trump was not president at the time he made the statements that led to the defamation verdict in that case.
