SpaceX Already Has Customers for Starship's First Flight to Mars
The Italian Space Agency has pledged to ship a biology experiment, meteorological monitoring equipment, and radiation sensors to the Red Planet.
By Jon Martindale August 8, 2025

SpaceX has had a troubled year when it comes to Starship, with several notably explosive test flights. But that hasn't stopped customers queuing up to pay for passage for when it is ready. The Italian Space Agency has become the first Starship customer, signing a deal to secure a spot on the first commercial flight to Mars with customers. There's no word on when that will be—or when Starship will even succeed in a test flight again, as recent attempts have all failed.

"Italy is going to Mars!" said the president of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), Teodoro Valente, on X (formerly Twitter). He hailed this landmark agreement that would make sure that when Starship flies to Mars in its first commercial interplanetary trip, Italian scientific experiments will be on board.

Starship 10 Launch Gets Green Light Following FAA's Flight 9 Investigation
Booster stress and a pressurization fault have been blamed for the loss of Starship's first and second stages.
By Jon Martindale August 19, 2025
The FAA, SpaceX, NASA, and the US Space Force have concluded their investigation into Starship's Flight 9 launch, which saw the loss of the spacecraft's first and second stages in May. This clears the way for the Flight 10 launch as soon as this weekend, when SpaceX will cross its fingers for a more successful mission, after three unsuccessful Starship launches in a row.

Although SpaceX pushed for a faster launch cadence in 2025 for its Starship test flights, it has run into repeated issues. Each launch ends with the upper stage failing to meet its intended mission goals and ultimately breaking apart in the upper atmosphere. SpaceX has managed to catch several of its first-stage boosters using its new "chopsticks" method, but Flight 9 also saw the first stage explode in descent.

At this point nasa should be using space-x as the default to get men and science into space. The fact that the falcon and probably within the next couple of years star-ship will have reusablity and can be launched at the 1/100th the price makes it insane not too.

Nasa shit the bed canceling their reusability projects and they simply don't have the political capital at this moment in history to even start. Using space-x allows them to do it for 1/10th the price and possibly still go to space and maybe continue to do space science.
