FCC chair puts 'The View' under the spotlight after Kimmel pressure

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr questioned on Thursday whether ABC’s “The View” should be subject to review from the agency, making the daytime talk show Carr’s latest target in his scrutiny of television programs that have been critical of President Donald Trump.
In an appearance on conservative commentator Scott Jenning’s podcast, Carr said he wondered whether “The View” qualified as a “bona fide” news program, a program discussing current events.
If the show did not qualify, Carr said, the program would have to obey the FCC’s equal time rule — which requires broadcast stations to give equal airtime and access to competing political candidates.
“I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether ‘The View,’ and some of these other programs that you have, still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore are exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place,” he said in the interview.
Oklahoma GOP Senators want MANDATORY "Charlie Kirk Memorial Plazas" built in EVERY PUBLIC UNIVERSITY
One Republican state lawmaker in Oklahoma now wants to require every public university in the state to erect statues to slain far-right activist Charlie Kirk.
On Friday, Jeffrey Sachs — an assistant professor at Nova Scotia's Acadia University — called attention to a bill by Oklahoma state senators Shane Jett (R) and Dana Prieto (R) that would mandate every public university in the Sooner State build a "Charlie Kirk Memorial Plaza." The bill, which has been filed as Senate Bill 1187 and does not yet have a formal name, would force universities to set aside a portion of real estate in a visible public location — like the quad, the student union or main entrance pathways — "to maximize public awareness and utilization."
Senate Bill 1187 would also make it a requirement for schools to erect a statue of both Kirk and his family, and to include a plaque honoring Kirk as "a voice of a generation, modern civil rights leader, vocal Christian, martyr for truth and faith, and free speech advocate."
Disney Bringing Back Jimmy Kimmel’s Show After Backlash By Sarah Rumpf

Introduction:
( Mediaite) The Walt Disney Company is bringing back Jimmy Kimmel’s show, the company announced on Monday after several days of backlash to the show’s suspension.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was indefinitely suspended by ABC after comments Kimmel made about Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” said Kimmel.
President Donald Trump and other Republicans lauded the suspension while Kimmel’s supporters denounced it as censorship, since it came in the aftermath of vociferous criticism from the president and comments from his Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr that his agency “can do this the easy way or the hard way” if companies don’t “find ways to change conduct and take action.”
Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner weighed in last Friday, lamenting Kimmel’s suspension as a failure of “leadership” for caving to the “out-of-control intimidation” from Carr. Numerous social media users posted screenshots showing they were cancelling Disney-owned subscription services like Disney+ or Hulu. Hundreds of celebrities signed onto a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union denouncing the suspension, and even Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) — no fan of Kimmel — blasted Carr’s rhetoric as “dangerous as hell” for the FCC to be “threatening government power to force him off air.”
