One of the biggest shifts has to be Musk going from celebrated if centrist and apolitical tech hero to the archetypal neo-fash Tech Bro™. There's just an incredible apathy towards tech right now because of how badly said techbros burned through their goodwill in record time, on top of not much flashy news coming out of space exploration, and people becoming more jumpy about the immediate costs of it. If things were as they were even 10 years ago, far more social and political stability, income inequality less than it is (which is insane to say because people in 2015 were sounding the alarm about insane levels of such inequality), open genocides not being broadcast and celebrated, then yes, I do think people would be way more optimistic.firestar464 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 4:59 pmSo true. Not only that, but also any space research at allTrueAnimationFan wrote:Does anyone else find it sad how in the span of 5 years, the idea of humans colonizing other planets has gone from something everyone on the internet finds fascinating to something that, if merely mentioned, makes people on the internet go "YOU HEARTLESS BASTARD! WE COULD BE FEEDING THE POOR WITH THAT MONEY AND YOU CHOOSE TO WASTE IT ON SOME ROCKETS THAT WILL SEND PEOPLE TO THEIR DOOM???"
Hell, I do think China's currently quite optimistic, and they have reasons to be. Their growth of solar is nothing short of miraculous.
