Honestly unbelievable how totally EVs have taken off (admittedly mostly in China and Europe)
I remember the original thread on EVs back on the old forum, circa 2014-2015, how even 100,000 yearly worldwide sales seemed like an incredible bit of progress
But also not surprising. Every mighty sequoia was once a sapling
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

This is why America is finished as a world leader/power. It's leaders have lost their fucking minds.

World's largest battery maker is taking EV tech to the seas

CATL is adapting its battery systems for ships, betting on electrification as the next frontier beyond road transport
By Skye Jacobs April 6, 2026 at 11:33 AM
Forward-looking: CATL is steering its advanced battery technology from the highways to the open seas. The world's largest battery maker is applying its expertise in electric vehicles and energy storage systems to maritime use, a sector it sees as the next frontier for large-scale electrification.

The company, which commands 37% of the global electric vehicle battery market and 22% of the energy storage segment, has already equipped roughly 900 ships with its batteries. Most of these are small, nearshore vessels that operate along China's coastlines, at ports, or on inland waterways.

Su Yi, who leads CATL's marine business unit, told the Financial Times that the requirements for operating on water are extremely high. Su plans to more than double her team to about 500 employees this year, expanding R&D and production capabilities for marine-grade energy systems

Again, not exactly true. It's more like ~80% EV sales by 2030, per the actual IEA report.

Wrote this on another forum:

I've been following EVs since roughly 2014, when the admin of another forum brought up how important they'd be for future development
It's honestly beyond belief how explosively their growth has been
Just a little over ten years ago, the global sales of EVs in a single year was about 200,000. There were a total of about 700k on the roads globally in 2015, literally a rounding error compared to the total number of cars.

Lol remember when the USA led in adoption rates of both EVs and solar power?

Ten years later, it's literally a 100x increase
Image

In fact that's actually outdated. It should be at 100 million worldwide by this year
And of course the vast majority of that is in China
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future
