Battery-boosted Mercedes super-saloon pushes closer to 600-mile range
By Simon Heptinstall
April 17, 2026
Mercedes has given its poshest electric saloon, the EQS, a mid-term refresh – showing exactly where the auto world’s current battleground is focused. Forget style, power, speed. Selling big EV sedans is now all about range.

That’s why Mercedes has pulled out all the stops to beef up the battery and voila: the EQS is now the mileage marathon marvel of the electric super-saloons with a hefty 575-mile (926-km) WLTP range.

Industry insiders also note that it’s no coincidence the EQS revamp was announced shortly before its main rival is unveiled, the new BMW i7. Its current maximum range is 387 miles. What range will the revamp offer?

I've been following EVs since roughly 2014, when the admin of another forum brought up how important they'd be for future development
It's honestly beyond belief how explosively their growth has been
Just a little over ten years ago, the global sales of EVs in a single year was about 200,000. There were a total of about 700k on the roads globally in 2015, literally a rounding error compared to the total number of cars.

Lol remember when the USA led in adoption rates of both EVs and solar power?

Ten years later, it's literally a 100x increase

In fact that's actually outdated. It should be at 100 million worldwide by this year
And of course the vast majority of that is in China
If this war keeps the oil price up I suspect that I'll be 200 million by 2030. Renewables and electric cars don't need government help at this point if government is dumb enough to block the straight. lol

Production EV packing sub-zero-operation sodium-ion batteries on its way
By Omar Kardoudi
April 28, 2026
Chinese battery giant CATL and automaker Changan announced the launch of the Changan Nevo A06, the world's first mass-production electric vehicle (EV) powered by sodium-ion batteries. It's due to hit the market mid-2026, and it marks the moment a technology long trapped in the lab finally steps onto the road.

The heart of the car is CATL's Naxtra cell, the result of a decade of R&D and roughly 10 billion yuan (US$1.4 billion) in investment. It's reported to reach an energy density of 175 Wh/kg – the highest achieved in mass production for sodium chemistry according to the company – and delivers a range of over 400 km (249 miles), with CATL targeting 500–600 km (310–373 miles) in future iterations.
