Google Maps is about to get a big dose of AI

April 22, 2026

Google has unveiled new generative AI features for its mapping and geospatial apps that are designed with enterprise users in mind. The new features, announced at Cloud Next in Las Vegas this week, add generative AI capabilities to Google’s mapping platform, giving it enhanced visual and data analytics powers.

One of the new features, called Maps Imagery Grounding, allows enterprise users to use generative AI to create realistic scenes in Google Street View to visualize how a particular project—be it a movie set or a planned construction site—might look. Users merely type a prompt into Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, which then conjures the scene inside Street View, as long as the proper settings have been enabled within Google Maps Imagery.

“In seconds, you can storyboard your creative vision with an accurate image—and you can even use Veo to animate the scene,” the company said in its press release.

The company is also expanding the ways in which users can analyze data from satellite imagery in Google Earth. A new feature called Aerial and Satellite Insights allows users to analyze imagery that is stored in Google Cloud’s BigQuery—the company’s cloud-based data warehouse and analytics platform. The company claims that this feature shrinks “weeks of work” into just minutes of labor.

Finally, the company is also launching two new Earth AI Imagery models, AI systems designed to assist with geospatial analysis. Google says that the models have been trained to identify “specific objects in imagery–like bridges, roads, and power lines.” Previously, companies had to build and train their own AI systems to do this, a process Google says could take months. The new models mean “businesses no longer need to spend months training and building AI from scratch when developing their own products.”

Google introduces Gemini Spark, a 24/7 agentic assistant with Gmail integration

In the race to build compelling personal AI agents, Google may have an underrated advantage: It already has all your emails.

At its Google I/O developer conference on Tuesday, the company announced a new agentic personal assistant called Gemini Spark that was built from Gemini base models and an agentic harness from Google Antigravity.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai described Spark as the next evolution of smart digital assistants, using agentic AI to take on long-horizon tasks with minimal oversight.

“It’s your personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life, taking action on your behalf and under your direction,” Pichai told reporters during a pre-briefing of the product. “It runs on dedicated virtual machines on Google Cloud seamlessly, [so] you don’t need to keep your laptop open to make sure it’s running.”

Spark follows a wave of popular agentic products from major AI labs, most notably Anthropic’s Claude Cowork and OpenAI’s ChatGPT agent, but it will have particular value because of its integration with the larger Google suite of products. Spark will include out-of-the-box integrations with Gmail, Google Docs, and other Google Workspace products, saving users the work of setting up connections and permissions with outside apps.

Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers

https://the-decoder.com/landmark-german ... e-answers/

My main issue isn't the imperfect nature of the overview feature per se, but rather that Google didn't act expediently to rectify the issues when the plaintiffs first approached them.

Firestar. We have to allow for some error and accept that it isn't perfect. To expect perfect or isn't allowed isn't fair to people that love this tech like me. Keep the a.i at the top of google and the links to the website to cross check below. ;)

As I said, my issue was not with the imperfect nature of the feature, but rather Google's failure to rectify the issues ASAP.

Google will make you wave at your computer to check you are real

New system is latest fight between website owners and automated bots that try and attack them

Andrew Griffin

Google will ask people to wave at their computer to confirm they are real.

The test is the latest in an ongoing battle between website owners and automated bots that try and access websites.

Many website owners use systems – such as CAPTCHA – to check that visitors to their website are actual human beings. That is intended to separate them from bots who might access a website to try and flood it with traffic as an attack, automatically sign up for online systems, or other attacks.

But, as bots become more sophisticated, it has become more difficult for those systems to sort the automated users from the real ones. Traditional systems such as the old versions of CAPTCHA, which asked users to identify letters and numbers, have become less reliable.
