Real-time, full-body motion capture in virtual reality

7th October 2012

Yost Engineering is a technology firm based in Portsmouth, Ohio. It makes off-the-shelf and custom software solutions for the healthcare industry, as well as having an active R&D division for robotics and electronics innovation.

This video shows the YEI 3-Space Sensor product family that was demonstrated at the Institute of Navigation conference held recently in Nashville, Tennessee.

Using 17 sensors and three wireless dongles, motions from an actor can be applied to a mesh in real-time and used to interact with virtual scenes rendered in the Unreal Engine. Adding a head-mounted display to the suit provides an immersive first-person experience with highly accurate head and body tracking.
